So I picked up a Q8 Sky last week. I am transferring my driveline from my 2005 SXR with a few upgrades. My goal is to get a season out of this engine, and upgrade to a EME 1200, or XS1200 and larger pump for next year! I stripped down my SXR a couple weeks ago, and traded the bare hull for a skat trac 142 magnum pump set back with 13/18 long nose prop with trim. Enclosed is a list, and pics of parts. More pics to come as I progress!

Kawi motor stock stroke 74mmx84.5mm bore= 830cc
Factory wet pipe, exhaust manifold port matched to cylinder
R&D Dominator head (milled beyond Oring, will let you know compreesion in future post),w/girdle kit
Rad lightwieght charging flywheel
cylinder porting
v force reeds
stock carbs re jetted
X metal waterbox
have dual exhaust from SXR, have'nt decided if I'm going to use it or not
RRP pole
Skat track 142 magnum pump set back, 13/18 long nose prop with trim
R&D Aquavein intake grate
EME ride plate
EME engine bedplate

I like the colors! I havnt ridden SickSXR07's Q8 but it definitely launches HUGE off of waves for that motor setup. Looks like he has to try hard not to over rotate backflips haha

Ive seen this hull in person. The graphics are even better in person that they do on the pics. I just finished my Q8 build with stock SXR setup that has a wetpipe and it rips. Swanny's is going be a sweet machine when its all done. Cant wait to see it all come together!

Update:
I have checked out other Q8 builds, and have noticed no one is running a 800 sxr fuel tank? Even Eric told me it wll not fit. Yesterday I did a full mock-up (see pics). I am still waiting for my internal fuel fill/pickup to be 100% before I glass in my inserts for tank and waterbox!Picture 088.jpgPicture 089.jpgPicture 090.jpgPicture 091.jpgPicture 092.jpg

Update:
Since my last post, have been busy. I'm not the greatest at documentation, but here is what I've been doing... A friend let me borrow a sweet tool for locating hole locations in bedplate (see pics), these inserts screw into motor mounts almost flush then position bedplate, line up couplers, then tap four corners. Remove, and you have ceter punch for pilot holes, no measuring, no guessing! I am running a 650 driveshaft but notice pics, the first pic shows the shaft seal area not riding in the proper place. So a spacer was made to bring the bearing plate in more, see second pic. Then I drilled holes for breather tubes for RRP pole, and installed pole. I cut 4" off tubes, I thought that would be a good starting point, since this hull is 10" shorter than a SXR. And yes I am working on some sort of spring system for pole, we will see? Next I installed inserts for strapping down waterbox and fuel tank, and yes that is the sxr tank (4.5 gal) It is tight, but it will work! In the next few days, I will install pissers, wire bilge and a alot of little things, then drop in motor. Update will follow.Picture 086.jpgPicture 105.jpgPicture 107.jpgPicture 110.jpgPicture 099.jpgPicture 102.jpgPicture 106.jpgPicture 109.jpgPicture 113.jpgPicture 097.jpg

You should come out in a few weeks, mine will be done. My buddy Roo is building xs1200 Superfreak, Todd has a Trinity with Kommander 1000, Bobby with Q8 with stock set up. We will have quite the variety to test ride.

O i can not wait!
Its going to be better than Christmas when i come out there to ride.
Think we are going riding this weekend.

BEAUTIFUL SKI SWANNY u guys got me thinkin.........

nice, every thing looks great. good idea on the spacer plate for the driveshaft. i had a stainless shaft made for mine.
looks like the inside of the q8's have come a long way since 09 especially the motor mount areas , mine needed crazy amount of shimming. as for a pole reference im at 33 inches from pivot bolt to bars and thats with 50mm riser bars . i would say maybe start at 36 with the pole farthest out .

PM me your contact info and I will reach out to you once my ski is ready to ride again, as I have to change my wrist pin bearings and do routine motor maintenance before I even think about putting my ski on the water this year.

My buddy Corey just picked up and Ariel 8, I will try to get him go join us.

beautiful work dude - can't wait to see this thing on the water.

as stock as Bobby's Q8 is, that ski is one of my favorites to ride.

can't wait to try one with some more power.

Can you elaborate? I've never ridden a Q8 but I've ridden a Rickter so I'm curious what you like about the Q8 so much.

The FS-1/2/3 are big boat compared to the Q8. I have never ridden an XFS so I can't compare to it.

After owning a Superfreak (2 of them) and riding a couple Q8's, I will never go back to a "bigger" hull again.

Smaller hulls are where it is at. I like the way they handle / carve (Superfreak) yet spin out and fly through the air with ease.

Last night was the maiden voyage for Swanny's Ski (Black/Green ski). This was probably one of my favorite skis I have ever rode.

Picture didn't turn out to good because of the white ski "overwhelming" my cell phone camera (I am sure there is photo lingo for this but I don't speak it).

IMAG0592.jpg

Compression gauge (Snap-On) came in at 198 PSI per cylinder. This thing is SNAPPY and just crazy fun to ride.

The best part - there is a stock gas tank in it, and the ride time is crazy long.

In my opinion, this is truly an all around perfect ski for any condition / ride type.

It barrel rolled effortlessly with crazy height. :barrel:

With the right rider, very confident this thing could be flat water flipped.

Good work in building it Swanny - you truly did a great job and did it right!

(and thanks for letting me rag on it the first night it was out!)
