LOL!!!! ok i'll play...

In 2010 I took my truck to the SEMA show in Las Vegas. We happened to arrive the night before Halloween.
So I find a costume at a local joint (walked like 2 miles in dress shoes... nightmare...) and my buddy and I hit Freemont Street Halloween night. (*edit* Thats a random guy dressed as Hunter S. Thompson, not my buddy. He went as the Mad Hatter.)

Managed to photobomb myself onto the ceiling.

The best part is that 'for real' Mexicans wanted to take pics with me!
I'm like.... OooooOOooohhhhkay.... LMAO... Vegas is surreal man...

So I went to the GI doc today. I could write a story about that, but I won't. Got a script... We'll see how it goes.
I have a 5 hour drive and a presentation in my future, so i'm packing 3 extra pairs of undies and pants... just in case.

Thanks MCrider....

Well, I have been working on it a little. Easter weekend was brutal with the kiddo's... I had big plans of working every night, but it just didn't pan out that way.
I think I worked Friday or Sat night til midnight or 1:00am... thank god for iHeart radio.

I bought some 24 grit rolock sanding discs, and scuffed up the face of the aluminum... some props to The Buzzard for his suggestion on that (even though he meant the other side....).
Then I hit all the foam with some 40 grit by hand to prep it for laying up the tray. I finished shaping the foothold areas as best as I could. Its not perfect, but I think once its turfed it'll look good.

I didn't take pics of everything, but I used a old towel to get the basic shape of what I thought the CF would need to be, props to an old build thread by Water Nut. That didn't work perfect, but it worked better than paper. I cut my CF, and tested it out in the spot it should be.

Then I used paper to make a pattern for the tray.

I covered a thin piece of plywood with a trash bag, and used that to wet out my carbon. Its hard to know just how wet it needs to be. I hear all the time to use as little as possible. But i'm always nervous about it being too dry. I went a touch wet but not too much. Hind sight, via a little coaching from Steve at Trendsetterz, I should have mixed up some thickened epoxy for the inverted part of the gunwale. I was having issues getting it to stick via surface tension. I hung out and baby sitted it for a hour until the resin got good and tacky. He gave me some other tips that i'll try on the next layers.

I already had the kevlar cut and ready, so I wetted it out and put it in place.

I know the strings are bad... I struggle with keeping them from walking off. A lot of the stringy hangers will be cut off soon so I can lay the tray. I have discovered a trick to keeping them in place on the next go around. We'll see how it goes.

And uber props to anyone who makes visual carbon parts. This stuff is hard to get to form to contours. I was happy to get it to just lay flat without buckling, and that took some major arranging.

After making my patterns.... I realized I have made a slight mistake...

I don't have enough carbon cloth to finish my tray...

oops.gif

Then I looked at the calendar and remembered that hydroturf had reportedly been slow on getting material....

And I haven't ordered any yet.... (Hell I hadn't decided what I was gonna put on it until Saturday...)

tumblr_inline_mj3qo4J6DU1qz4rgp.gif

So ordered more this morning from Sollier Composites. And I have a e-mail into hydro turf to check stock on the turf I want to use. Its gonna be close for me to make the LSFR... I suppose if I can't do anything else in the tray I can install all the drive train... I think... hmmm...

Ok, thats it...

Well... actually...

Gorilla bird wants to say hi...

I was on my way to lunch today with 15 things to do in the hour provided...

I wanted to call hydroturf and find out about the inventory thing.... But I just sent them a e-mail right?
So I need to just be patient and wait for them to respond...

Right?

tumblr_inline_mkbn0wPL3W1qz4rgp.gif

Of course not... I called, guy said calling is faster because they're busy handling orders on Monday morning. (FYI for all you really patient people out there....)

Ughhh..... Dunno if its the weather change or staying up working on my ski... but this is pretty much how I feel today.

I wasn't going to do any work last night but I succumbed to the peer pressure of Facebook and drug my tired self to my shop.

I made a pattern for the carbon section that mates the material already down to the dash/ FFH. Then copied it for the other side.
Mixed up resin. Wetted the sides out and layed them in.

Next was the piece for the bottom... That thing is a resin hog.... used pretty much everything I had up.

I didn't get to check it this morning, slept in... kids were being crazy...

Its amazing, after all the smoothing and shaping and everything else i've done... laying carbon fiber down on my tray makes it look like I sanded it with a rake.... attached to a jack hammer.

So back to the resin thing....

I found some west systems resin and hardener in my shop. Its probably 2 or 3 years old. I figured wtf... try it out on a test panel. The Resin pumped out clear... the hardner.... it looked like dehydrated coke.

And this is all the CF I have left currently.
92DB9775-1241-4E51-9EA5-13E0C09BFF1A-578-000000D91BD37E72_zps05226010.jpg

But I need resin too... so i'm not sure what i'm going to do. Hind sight I should have ordered resin when I ordered the CF.
I may try to find some locally cause US composites hasn't shipped quickly in the past.

Don't forget kids...

Safety first!

Haha, those gifs are hilarious... It took me a least a week and a half to get my turf/padding from hydroturf, hope yours comes in quicker. Looks like what i just went through except your using CF (and a front FH, which looking back at mine i wish i'da thrown one on). Looks good though, i'm at the point of staring at mine saying, go ahead and turf already.... then i look at it some more and think aahhhh i dont want to turf right now.

Any ideas for paint?

I'm trying to leave the paint job I did late last season. My wife would like <s>a completely different paint job</S> some more purple on the black and orange side... If I find time I might add purple pinstripes or something. I need to get this done so I have time and room for my new hull...
