SX-R Vs. Superjet

Darkside

Ok, last ski I had was a '93 750SX limited. I also used to ride a friends modded 650 square nose superjet. Some how I got the bug to buy another standup. I just need opinions on the SX-R vs. the Superjet. Not trying to start any crap, by the way the SX-R body looks like the old lazerjet. I just can't seem to find much info on the SX-R, is it much different from my old '93 SX? I had a good deal lined up on a 1998 Superjet, then the Limp Richard backed out, so there it sits dry rotting in the sun with weeds growing all over it. Anyways, I am frustrated and have found a couple of new '05 SX-R's for $5K each. Just need some opinions from the stand-up immortals here? Thanks!

YOu can easily find many topics on here if you do a search on it. Also we have the war between the two parties The force(kawis), and the darkside(Yamis).

Generally, if you like to carve, go fast, and race buoys, get the sxr.

OR

If your type of riding involves freeriding/freestyling, or just screwing around for fun, get the superjet.

I personally like the superjet for playing around, I think the sxr is meant for an easier cruiser and racing buoys(I have ridden both skis and own a superjet).

I have great water conditions where I live. Anything from flat, to choppy, to big waves to ride. I do remember that my SX was a lot harder to ride, in fact it seemed that you almost had to try to fall off the Superjet. I am not sure what type of riding I want to do. I guess I want to do it all. I think my real question should be is the 800 SX-R much different from my old 750 SX? Is it easier to ride or is it closer in stability to the Superjet?

it's more stable than the superjet

The sxr is like riding a boat. It is more bouyant, easier to ride, and carves like no other. The only downside is the weight. It is 60lbs heavier then a SJ, and you know its there when riding it. If you want to play around, recreation ride, do tricks, just go out there and have fun, buy a superjet. If you want to go race buy a SXR. I wouldnt own a SXR unless I wanted to race, but I am young. If you realy are not into tricks, go for the SXR, it is easier to ride, has lots of power, and the turning capabilites are awsome. my 2 cent.

Ok, this is what I needed! Yes, there are some pretty big waves in Destin. If you are not familiar with area, the jettys as we call them roll in some pretty big waves consistently. I used to take my blaster II to jump the big waves. It can be pretty trecherous because the big charter boats come in to the Destin harbor through the jettys, a lot of traffic there. The waves are not really surfing type waves, in fact you don't realize how big they are until they are right on you.

I don't mean to burst your bubble but have you looked at the gulf in the last month or 2? it's dead flat. no jetty is going to turn nothing into a big wave. wait for a storm or the winter cold fronts and your jetties will start working again.

I know what you mean about the waves here on the Gulf Coast, we rarely have surfable waves. The waves at the jettys are more like really huge wakes and I am not sure what generates the waves, but storms have nothing to do with this. I know the jettys are man made and the water at the entrance looks really deep, not sure if that has anything to do with that. I tried a few times to get out there with my 750 SX, but the waves right at the entrance kept knocking me down, I have to say even with the Wave blaster II it could be hard to get out into the Gulf. Superjet seems to be what I need? Not sure if I will race or not?

SX-r is nice because because it's cheaper. I did alot of shopping around, and new it's $500 cheaper. The used ones are always cheaper too. If you get an SJ, expect to spend another $1000 in mods right off the bat. I just bought an 06 SJ, and the turf sucks (really slippery), prop sucks, intake sucks and much slower unless you add a pipe and a head.
An SX-r is a nice machine right off the crate.
I still love my SJ though, especially comming from a 750 SXI pro.
