I took my 11' SXR to the shop for repair today and I want to make sure my theory is correct. Nearly three weeks ago, the hood flew off and knocked me off the ski because the latch came loose. My SXR started sinking from the rough waves splashing into the open hull and hydro-locked the motor. I had it sent to the shop for repair and got it back last week. I installed a bilge pump with a off/on switch and modified the hood before I took it for a ride last weekend and it keeps shutting down every time I lets go of the throttle. I had to turn the choke on to get it to start again until it refused to start anymore. It is not even trying to start like the batter is completely dead or the starter is fried but when I took the spark plug off, the cylinders are functionally fine and has good compression which means the starter and battery are fine. Is it possible it has a bad wiring or something?
I was wondering if you guys have experienced this before. I am a self-taught mechanic with excellent experience on ATV and dirt bike, this is my very first watercraft vehicle I have owned and I have no experience on them and would like to learn some more about them.
Thanks!
