SXR SXR Problem

I took my 11' SXR to the shop for repair today and I want to make sure my theory is correct. Nearly three weeks ago, the hood flew off and knocked me off the ski because the latch came loose. My SXR started sinking from the rough waves splashing into the open hull and hydro-locked the motor. I had it sent to the shop for repair and got it back last week. I installed a bilge pump with a off/on switch and modified the hood before I took it for a ride last weekend and it keeps shutting down every time I lets go of the throttle. I had to turn the choke on to get it to start again until it refused to start anymore. It is not even trying to start like the batter is completely dead or the starter is fried but when I took the spark plug off, the cylinders are functionally fine and has good compression which means the starter and battery are fine. Is it possible it has a bad wiring or something?

I was wondering if you guys have experienced this before. I am a self-taught mechanic with excellent experience on ATV and dirt bike, this is my very first watercraft vehicle I have owned and I have no experience on them and would like to learn some more about them.

Thanks!

Open up your electrical box...sounds like water in there.

Does it make ANY noise when you hit the green button? Does it spin when the spark plugs are out and you hit the button?

Did they tell you what all they replaced when the shop did the repair. Did you do an actual compression test on it?

I got the paper about it, they fixed the hydro-locked motor and put in new spark plugs. I didn't do the actual compression test but I can tell the cylinders are functionally fine.

The SXR is already at the shop, the electrical box was my guess too.

It tried to spin for a second and then stop. It can spin just fine without the spark plugs. It was make a weird noise with the plugs in it, almost like bad wiring or something.

Just got a call from the shop, they said the battery was completely dead. WTF? My jet ski is good to go and I am going to pick it up today and they are not going to charge me. I am still unsure about this.

Didn't means to double post guys.....

I am still having a situation, I tried to take my SXR out today and it keeps shutting down. After it shuts down, I can't get it to turns over unless I turn on the choke every time. It only shut down when it is supposed to stay running on idle. It even tried to shut down when I am driving it around. I tried to adjust the idle screw but didn’t help. This ski doesn't even have more than 20 hours on it and is it even possible there is something clogging the fuel lines or filter?

Sounds like water in fuel. Drain the fuel and clean the carbs.

I flushed out the fuel and cleaned out the carburetor and the SXR is still doing the same thing. I am completely out of ideas and found that the spark plug's tip is pitch black. That tells me that it is running rich and how is that even possible because nobody has been messing with the carburetor's jetting setting.

Your ski has a 1 year warranty I think... I would try to get a new one.

I highly doubt that will happen. Before I took it back to the shop yesterday, I figured that the SXR is running rich since the spark plugs is pitch black and prob why it keeps bogging down and shutting down. I will just let them re-tune it rather doing it myself in the 100+ degree heat.

More of both. Every time it dies, I have to turn on the choke in order to fire it up again (Literally every time). My guess is the carburetors is flooding, it must be getting too much gas or something is stuck inside and is letting in too much gas.

I think you still got water...did you COMPLETELY Drain the tank and dry it with paper towels and take apart the carbs and spray them with carb cleaner????

If there was water in the crankcase, it wouldn't run and would probably hydrolock. If the motor is running and doesn't clear up in about 30 seconds.... the water is in the gas/carbs.
