I installed my new impeller and it moves up and down about 1/8th of an inch. Is this normal, or am I missing a part under the impeller. :eek:mfg:

no dj you shouldnt be able to move the prop up and down on a sxr pump. the only things i can think off is that your spacer under the porp(it also seal the front off the pump)is missing or the prop is bottoming out on the threads on your shaft.
if it is the second option you can just go to a machine shop and get them to deepen the wee recess buy the threads.

ive never has to use a washer between the prop and the sleave dj . what prop are you running now has it been set back at all . it kind off sound to me that when you screw your prop on it is bottoming out on the recess at the start off the threads before your prop tighten up against your sleave and locks it all in place. ill try and get get a pic off what im talking about when i get to work in a hour so it makes more scene.
i was just thinking as well , ive never had a sxr pump to bits or prop out only 750 ones so there could be a washer . what happening when you screw your old prop in does that move up and down as well or is it just your new one

This issue has gotten alot worse. The pump rattles like crazy. Gonna rip it apart tomorrow.

BTW...NEVER had a problem with this pump until I replaced the impeller last July, then it worked like CHIT

Okay, here is what I found. The bolt going through the pump is slamming into the wet wolf pump cone. It actually dug a nice little circle into it....pics to follow. It still moves back and forth about 1/8" (slamming this bolt into the cone). It must just need a rebuild????

I am hoping that this is what is making all the noise.

IMHO get rid of that SBT prop. (I remember you stating that you put one in). From what I have heard from others, they are junk!! As you stated before, it all started when you put in the prop.

True, but it is a refurbished stocker (I had a stocker in there before. The prop doesn't move at all, but the bolt on the other side does???) It still spins perfectly...Yes, I think I will buy a used stock prop on here somewhere.

Cool. I think you would be very happy with a Solas Dynafly 13/22 cutback 5mm prop from impros. It was a big difference on my boat and will never look back.

It's not a bolt. It's the impeller shaft. If it still spins and prop is tight. the threads on impeller and/are shot & so is the impeller shaft.

its real easy to not tighten the prop all the way, just had this happen the other day with a new scat. its best to pull it apart and inspect the bearings to make sure they fell smooth, no grit or slop in them. and then find yourself a thread file or die to run over the threads on the shaft. then find a tap for the threads on the prop and clean that all up. then I like a good amount of blue loctite on the threads or you can use thread sealant( the white stuff) and slowly and gently spin the prop on just because you cant turn the prop anymore does not mean it was tight, it was stuck and not yet bottomed out. and that resulted in your sloppy loose shaft situation. I could be wrong but from what I see that is what I believe is your issue.

And dont worry I replace lots of props with sbt remans and never had any issues.

Thanks Tom.

Going to do that tonight and am going to replace the bearings because I already have them and they are 7 years old. Sounds like this is the problem.
