Take a look at my cylinder/porting...does this look right?

My transfer ports look like they are very overlapped. Should I match them? Is this the stock sleeve? Also, my sport port template doesn't match my intake side. My cylinder is stamped 61x and the template is labeled 61x? Do these look like the stock sleeves?:pancake:

The intake side "doesn't fit" because you're supposed the grind the overhang off. It's a porting template - it shows you where you're supposed to port/

I asked about this last year when porting my cylinder. The overwhelming response at the time was don't touch them unless you know exactly what you're doing or your F up your cylinder because it will change the port timing.

Actually Im most concerned about how the intake side template doesnt match the contour of the cylinder at all. Also, I was wondeirng if i should match the transfer port window to the transfer port tunnel? Mine are farely off.

The reason it cost what it does is because they know why and what they are doing along with not messing up. Its one thing to sport port, its another to do higher performing work that matches with the total matching of a package. The sport port is only a minimum porting point.

This was the post I was thinking of. I guess I was over exagerating but "consult a pro" was enough convincing for me to not do it. http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/47680&highlight=port

Here is tha picture of what my cylinder looked like when I laid the template over top. I didn't touch my porting mismatch and only did what the two templates said to do and the ski works amazingly well.

As far as the ports being overlapped, I found it odd on my '98' 701 that the ports in the sleeve were so far off from the cylinder cast also. After a little research found it to be normal for stock sleeves to be that way on Superjets. I thought somebody did a bad resleeve job. Worked on many 2 stroke bike motors and the ports always matched. Still seems odd to me.

You'll have a hard time finding that kind of mismatch in any other PWC engine.
Even the 650 Yamaha is a lot better.
Rotax port matching is a work of art compared to the 701 crap Yamaha spat out.

I think the idea behind 61x cyl was to either race it as stock or replace it with aftermarket one for higher class thus they did not pay attention to something that would be replaced anyways..?

So to summarize: waternut's picture shows correct way to place the sport port tempalte on the intake side?

Nope, I'm doing it. Theres only 1 way to learn, and thats to do it. If i dropped everything and walked away from it, what would I know now? Id be the guy who doesn't do anything his self and pays somebody else to do it...we all know somebody like that. There is a certain amount of pride in doing things yourself instead of paying somebody to do it. I've got all the info I need now folks, thanks.
