the blaster from hell...

Alright sooo recently over the winter i finally got my hands on a blaster. Ski looked nice had some parts in it and was supposed to run great. Well long story short i finally put it in the water and all sorts of problems started -_- first it wouldnt rev up in the water at all so pull it out and me and my buddy started working. We pulled the head off and the back cylinder was pretty much shot. so we pulled the motor and found that the pipe wasnt even bolted on to the manifold!! i mean seriously! so ok wasnt too bad to rebuild the top end and put bolts in the exhaust but then we decided to look over some other stuff just to make sure. good thing we did. The mid shaft didnt belong to the ski at all! the wiring looked like it was done by a 5 year old and the jet pump was completely shot. the pump had a hole in it the size of a silver dollar and was JB welded... plus the propr and wear ring were shot. The carb was messed up as well and i believe a monkey could have done a better job tuning it. so after spending an entire day pretty much rebuilding this ski that i was guaranteed "ran perfect" we notice the hull had a huge repair job. I know what youre thinking, how did i not see it when i bought it. well it wasnt in a very noticably spot and it was negtive degrees out when i bought it. So we put the ski back together with an rebuild pump, rebuild motor, and all the right parts and took it for a ride. RAN AMAZING and fell in look with blasters instantly! but only 3 ride in the "repair job" literally fell apart while riding. This guy used pegboard riveted to ply wood and then used corner bead. the licorice... thank god i saw it before i continued riding otherwise i would have been in A LOT of trouble and possibly life threatening.

so a fair warning to all my friends and members on here that ths guy lives in Kingston, New Hampshire and has a few blasters so hes probably on here.

Now id like to think when you promise someone the ski runs with no problem that it actually at least runs, the kicker is i never asked to be compensated for the money in parts i had to invest which wasnt cheap but did ask for $300 for a new hull which i think is fair. anyone agree?

Yea I agree. $300 is not a lot for a hull either. Thats some shady stuff right there. Probably the worst repair job I've ever seen.

While it's very unfortunate that this happened to you, this is the reason no matter the conditions you check things over 110% before you buy. Because the seller is going to say bought "as is" and "not my problem". There are shady sellers out there that do this kind of stuff. It's our responsibility as buyers to make sure what we are paying for is what we want. Please dont take this the wrong way, I've been there before. Just look at it as a lesson learned

i understand that part of it and the bullpoop "as is" part but how can you check a pump, motor internals, and the strength of a repair job? But after reading a few law books i came across the rule on false advertising which in a nut shell states he broke the law by saying this ski ran with no problems. He claims he rode the ski and it ran great. There is no possible way this ski ever ran in water with a bad wear ring, bad prop, and huge hole in the jet pump housing plus he had the ada head on backwards so the motor wasnt cooling properly and would have blown after minutes of riding

That sucks bro that this happened to you. i just go my first waveblaster and love it!..unfortunately with that law he will just deny he ever said it ran perfect, it will be you word against his, there are lots of loop holes when it come to laws. good luck with it!

IF you have the claim "he rode the ski and it ran great." written on paper, then take him to court, deal with those costs, time and stress.
If it isn't written then theres no point, even then, how can you prove that you didn't do that damage and he did?
Or you could get started on the repairs and It'll be less time, money, and stress. Plus brand new reliable parts!

You can check motor internals 90% by doing a compression check. That there would
Have told you the motor is shot at which time you make your deal minus a completely new motor price (because you dont know how bad it actually is, just that there's something wrong) go off that, check inside of pump from backside with flashlight, granted you won't see everything, but you get the idea. There's a lot more you can check out when you buy something

Compression doesn't mean much.. only that the the rings/ head/ head gasket and bore is in decent condition. i've bought a 150/150 ski before only to find a rusted/broken crank, water ingestion in the engine, and bent piston wall.
It's a guessing game, try to pay like everything is broken, unless you know for sure it is fine, such as when buying from a trusted friend.

He's sent in texts saying the ski ran perfect with no problems and also that he rode it and ran good. I'll post pics of what the pump and motor looked like and you guys can tell me this thing would have never ran

He said he took the head off and the back cylinder was trashed. A compression check would have shown that and maybe it would have sparked a more thorough inspection on everything else. I always ask how the for sale item runs, listen to their excuses and bull poop and then do my comp check and you'll find out right away what kind of person your dealing with. I do. Agree buying anything used I always a gamble

If people chop up, cut,
Grind, rocker and reshape hulls for fun, I'd be willing to bet it's doable... Now weather you want to or not is up to you

Its not worth your time, fix the ski and chalk it up as a life lesson.

I agree. Chance are this guy wont give you a dime, especially since he was such a shady seller to begin with. Its a hard lesson to learn, but you wont make that mistake again.
