The flatwater BF is dead.

Backflip contests aren't freestyle. Freestyle is supposed to contain a various set of tricks, not 25 consecutive flips and a weak roll. Anyone who does backflip after backflip after backflip shouldn't receive a good score, at all. Thats why Lee Stone won Pro at worlds last year, he didn't throw down a flip fest, he threw down tons of different tricks, and they were big! I don't plan on doing more than 2 consecutive flips any time in competition, because I know people dont wanna see that, which is why I'm working on some old school tricks right now too.

I'll admit, before I was flipping, backflips looked pretty lame just because everyone was doing them non-stop. Once I started flipping, I had more respect for everyone who was flipping, because its a tough trick to learn. Flips are a lot of fun to do, but they do get boring if its the only thing you watch someone do. I think that the backflip isn't necessarily 'dead', but constant consecutive flips are.

The sport is progressing......plain and simple. Freestyle dirt bike competions....you are nothing if you cant do a bf. Fifteen years ago, nobody could do a bf on a dirt bike.

We just see so many riders doing what use to seem like insane back flips doing them.

Aftermarket boats are all we are going to have around in the next 10 years so, screw it..... The level of riding is so high out there, it honestly motivates people like me that will probably never be able to do it even if I had the right boat.

Its human nature to want to take the easy way rather then put heaps and heaps of hours in to complete the job .... thats not a bad thing just telling it how it is. If i could i would prob do the same, all i want to see is if someone can flip on xfs or similar with a limitied setup or even 760cc, which is more in my price range then the big 1000cc setups. When i get my aftermarket hull then i guess ill be putting in the hours to see i its possible for the amatuer. The backflip is definately not dead , maybe just put into the background a bit.

Gotta pay to play, regardless of what sport or activity you do. How much are you willing to spend is was it comes down to, an some people get butthurt cause you can spend more than them.

I think the BF is just being prostituted way too much lately, its all anyone and everyone talks about so yeah its losing its appeal.

As far as surf vs FW...

Not everyone has surf in their backyard so its not fair to compare the two. I agree the surf probably requires more balls launching off huge waves, but flatwater definately requires a certain setup, lightweight with some brappp as they dont have the huge waves to get all the hangtime. This should all be common sense so I dont get waht all of the hating is about :dunno:

OK baller, didn't you buy what you thought was an envy hull that turned out to be something completely different than you thought it was at the time of purchase (REV)? All you knew was that it was carbon and people on these boards had to tell you what it was. How much did your butt hurt when you bought the worng ski? Thanks for continuing to enlighten us in this thread with your witty quips and vast knowledge of freestyle and ski building.

Even I told you what your hull was... lol http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/90747-...arbon-envy!!&p=1084714&viewfull=1#post1084714

Before that all you wanted to argue about was that the fx1 was the end all/be all of everything freestyle. Give me a break!

~15 years ago when 10 year olds could do a kick flip and a similar statement could have been made.

~5-10 years ago when fmx went to all inverted tricks and a similar statement could have been made.

I make this statement now and venom is SPEWED! way to show your colors guys. Why not talk it up rather than me and others down. My only guess to why you don't talk it up is because your only goal is to do a flip on an expensive ski and you want it to hold weight and it doesn't anymore. Do a bigger trick and no one will care about a single flip with no variations, it'll just be filler in your 2 minute routine.

thin skin + lots of money invested and too much pride = over reaction.

ha, If I had surf that was is my backyard or if I got to ride it tomorrow I would nail the first suitable wave I seen to try something crazy. We ride lake Erie, surf is 25hrs drive away. Put me into the "cheap ski" category, I dont care, I still gonna ride twice a week. This doesn't mean Im still not gonna put money and time into my ski to try and learn the flatwater BF just cuz its super cool!

ok, I'll put in my .o2 cents! yes, the flatwater BF is getting boring to see...especially when their is no other tricks involved in a routine. yes, you can buy a FW BF boat but it will end up being a "one trick poney" and not an all around ski that can be used just about anywhere.

The trick that holds the most respect to me is a super clean FW BR. No newbie on a carbon hull 1000cc can perform that trick without extensive practice and perfect timing. You actually have to be able to "ride" a ski to execute this trick.

IMO, learn to ride your ski before learning to do tricks

ya, maybe once a month, and to catch them is a task in itself....we have hit some waves before but its a situation where you are afraid for your skis life....

hey demon, its frustrating isn't it. no skills but mad skills. haha. If FW backflips (which i don't care about because i want to FW roll) are going to have internet bragging rights now after this, it will be a video of how big you did it with and how small a motor. I agree with everything everyone said. except matte or motorman if they said anything. hahah just tricking. Now i can't flatwater anything but ride and do gay hood tricks. i don't measure the amount of fun i have on the water by the tricks i can do, i don't compete, I don't race, I just ride and enjoy the time we have on the water as most do. flatwater can be fun, and waves are just endless enjoyment. this is what we do for some flatwater fun. last night in my backyard.

no tricks just us canadians doing our thing whatever it may be. you may need to watch the video in youtube site if it appears choppy.

ya, being able to FW roll is the best trick, fw backflip is a close second. i would do both if I could. and so would you d-roc. you care...

if i cared enough, i would have got the trim ring for my blowsion reduction nozzle. One trick at a time for this old fart. I will be the person who takes the longest to learn to FW backflip. haha. just try and take that from me. Where is Gil?

Doing a back flip on the ground in the water off a diving board on a jet ski on a dirt bike skate board snowboard or skis, all take different levels of practice commitment and skill and are ALL great to watch. I agree that bf after bf after bf can get old watching in comps. D-roc that video looks like fun the "tree creek slalom" is really cool.

i guess when you get older it takes longer to learn anything! I would like to do one before I turn 50!!
all those BR's are starting to take a toll on my aging body...like a small car reck every time!

slow and steady wins the race!!

th go pro mount was pulled out of the scrap and bolted and bent to spec on site. do you want me to post up the video that it took? haha i wish it worked longer because we have a train bridge that gets blocked up with wood, we have to jump a log but duck the cross beam at about 5'
