SX/SXi/SXi Pro the reconstruction of my first ski! ( 750sx)

so i went to pick up this jet ski today that i made made a deposit on earlier in the week. post i made about it--> http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/89028-16-year-old-my-first-ski! and upon further inspection i got a real beat ski on my hands... there is a hole in the front part of the hull, and in the rear where the ride plate mounts has been patched poorly looks like the ride plate broke off... there is a major crack by the hood. the motor as poor compression, but runs just fine. it has 150 psi in one cylinder and 130-135 psi in the other. it has bad rings because i put some oil in the cylinders and they both went up to 160+ psi. so its gonna need a top end. and the handle pole has been poorly repaired (it broke at the base...).. i payed 500 bucks for this thing... i think i got riped off... :eek:uch: i will get better pics of the carnage tomorrow. i plan on fixing it.... but its gonna be alot of work... but i can do it! she can be rebuilt! stronger , better , faster, THAN EVER BEFORE! :usa2:

it probably used to be a race ski but 500 isnt a bad price just have to know how to fix fibergalss sound like thats about it
ya think so? ya it was whooped on for sure. i just hope is structurally ok... its cot a couple good cracks. by dad used to build boats.. so this isn't his first rodeo when it comes to fiber glass. my first time using fiber glass...

the deeper i go the worse it gets....

so i pulled everything out of the ski today so i could clean everything up and make room to fix the fiber glass. took some pics of the 1/4 ass job on the ride plate repair...its a mix of long bolts going through the whole ski, lots of bondo, silicone and some poorly laid fiber glass... pathetic. this thing is a mess! so when i tok the pump off to make room to fix the fiber glass where the ride plate mounts i discovered that the berrings and seals are completly beyond shot, and someone stripped the pump shaft. but the stat trac impeller looks salvageable :fingersx: i ordered a shaft and bearing/ seal kit to fix the pump and hopefully i will start cutting out fiber glass tomorrow.. im just praying that everything goes smoothly. but the good news is that it cleaned up pretty good.. here are some pics.

Sorry for the snags in the ski man, but I still think $500 is a fine deal. If you get too pissed off with it, part it and recover you $500.

Still, abit of glass and some elbow grease can work wonders. She will be up and running soon.

Motor look good , Hull just needs some TLC a sexy paint job footholds and turf

500 is a great price as you are doing all the work yourself , keep the pics coming of your build

ya im gonna fix it! it might be a little while but it will run again. but its got enough after-market goodies to definitely make some money off the ski when i do sell it...

I got mine for $400, busted and poorly repaired pole, a deep dock-rash on the starboard side between the handlepole mount and bondline, no structural fiberglass damage, a dead battery and no factory pipe, that factory pipe makes you suck more than me.

ya thats bout a equal deal considering i nave to pretty much rebuilt the ass end of my hull. but mine did come w alot of after market goodies... how do you like yours? dose it handle well?

wheal i pulled apart my bump and the shaft and bearings are toast. i ordered new berring and seal rebuild kit for 30 bucks and a used shaft in good shape for 10.. im gonna re tap and try to fix the threads on the impeller the threads came off the shaft and are still in the impeller so i chould be able to run a tap through it and clear out the shaft threads... I hope.

is this a good impeller?

It hit the water for $700 out of pocket after finding an ac pole and has decent pickup but the carb needs a rebuild (thrittle from idle to full makes the engine bog out and die, no amount of adjustment on the carb fixes this and everything engine wise is stock). The dock rash was a very localized and poorly repaired dent the size of a whopper that didn't break through so it still has most of its water integrity.

Try to pick out all of the remains of the old thread with a dental-pick like tool and then run a tap through to clean it out the rest of the way.

Jeebus. The term 'ride it like a rental' comes to mind looking at that. You didn't buy that ski, you rescued it from abusive parents. Good luck with the build. Go over that ski with a fine toothed comb and take your time.
