I took Friday off so I could get rolling on this garage and feel like I was actually accomplishing something.

One more trip to Lowe’s for more shelving material, insulation and everything needed to add outlets for my welder, mill and compressor.

I got up early this morning and finished laying in all the insulation before it got too hot. Then we moved the last few items up so we could start prepping the floor for epoxy.

2 wash cycles, 2 acid etches and then 2 more rinses before a final squeegy. So close but now we have to wait a couple days before we can apply the epoxy.

If work goes well, I should be able to move everything over and paint the small bay next weekend.

This will be my third floor done using the Rustoleum Epoxy Shield kit from Lowe's.

I have zero complaints and am still tremendously impressed with the durability of this product. We do all the recommended prep and haven't had any issues yet.

I was rough on the last one and it had way more scars than the previous floor but it's pretty easy to patch up and the flake really hides a lot of it anyways. I really hadn't noticed it until we packed everything up to move out.

How does it hold up to brake cleaner and solvents? I use the Walmart Brake cleaner like its going out of style.

I’ve done the same. It will soften if you soak it and then scrub or abrade it. If you allow the chemical to evaporate off, then it gets hard again.

It's been a long time coming and still a few days away yet but I am more than ready for this to happen.

There's even a test pond out back although I'm not sure I want to know the actual cost of using it.

I will never understand why people build houses so damn close together...Spend another $10k and get some space between you and the neighbors!

I was looking forward to a few days of R&R while the garage floor set up but my wife had other ideas...

Rather than tinker on a few little things inside the house, we tackled the front flower garden instead. Before you can stop to smell the roses, you have to actually plant them.

We have the landscapers coming back next week to remove the shrubs and replace all the pine straw down the sides of the house with sod so we wanted to establish the front oasis so they can fill in around it at the same time.

As usual, I got to put a couple hours into OCD and then the rest of the day is spent on making the wife happy.

I got the OCD bay washed, etched and squeegeed off so while I wait for it to dry, I installed a WiFi Rainbird controller, tuned some sprinkler heads and then went inside before it got too hot.

I’ve spoiled my wife the last two houses with wall mount TV’s with hidden wires but always hated the mess of wires and devices left at the base of the wall. My wife was eyeballing little tables that I felt just made things look worse so today I decided to relocate the Apple TV and Direct TV Genie mini up behind the TV. Both are RF remotes so line of site is not required.

I only wish I had tried this before I had cut the lower chase holes a few days ago. Otherwise I could have eliminated all the wires and had it even more OCD!!!

Well today was all OCD!

I added a 30 Amp 4 wire outlet for my Welder/Mill feeder.

I also cut in another bench plug as well as a dedicated outlet in between the garage doors so I can plug a cord in without running all the way to the front entrance now.

And finally, I installed a 240 Volt outlet in the attic and got my compressor online.

But, the best part was to finally lay down the epoxy on the OCD side and get one step closer to being able to actually start OCD back up!

It’s still not 100% but let’s face it, a workshop is never truly finished.

However, it’s setup enough to say that OCD is able to resume production at this time.

Today’s agenda is to build enough battery cables to get an order sent out to Jetmaniac tomorrow morning.

And I can tell you already that getting the mini split installed will be my next priority. Good god is hot in here right now.

The layout is pretty much identical to the last shop because I felt it worked well and was a good use of space.

The ceiling is higher so I gained another shelf and I was able to mount my wire rack to an 1/4” sheet of aluminum this time instead of a piece of OSB that warped under the weight.

Got my PSB rear fill speakers mounted to fill out the surround system and my new anti-fatigue / catch-all mats finally arrived. Hopefully I can get the speaker wires run up in the attic one night this week in addition to pulling the Ethernet and coax down the wall for directTV and AppleTV.

I just had to run the wires across the wall to see how it would sound. I replaced two ancient Bose speakers with a PSB 5.1 setup with 700Watts so it makes some noise. The 300i’s put out a ton of base so the sub isn’t even needed, nor appreciated by the wife inside trying to work.


I shifted things around last night to try and open things up the floor plan a bit. I blocked the door but I really don’t care since we only seem to open the big door anyways.

Pretty sure the mill and lathe will swap positions before this is all over as well.

I still have to bring home my skis and see how much room I have left before I assemble my 3x6 aluminum shop table so things won’t stay open very long. I collected up all the pieces before the move but didn’t have time to weld it all together.

Did some final coats of epoxy and used up all the partial cans I’ve been packing around for at least 4 years now.

Even had enough to do my “secret drawer”.
