the trivial complaints thread

Haha I almost bought a Samsung but all the hoopla about the iphone 6's not being able to be hacked by the NSA sold me. I don't have anything to hide, but I still don't appreciate being spied on. Whether its true or not may be debatable, but it was a selling point for me. Every other apple product I have has been disappointing me lately so I was almost ready to make the switch...

To be fair, its probably not an apple issue. Im cursed. Everything I buy is a lemon. I could literally buy a pair of shoes and their soles would fall off before I could even get to the parking lot. That may be an exaggeration but, no joke, I once bought fire starter logs that I couldn't get to light even after trying to start them with gasoline. Its always something stupid like that. That's my luck.....

Go to costco next time for your phone or get one off amazon. Better deal, free phone cover and extra crap. Plus you only pay tax on what you pay for the phone. So if you get a phone for .99 cents you pay tax on the 99 cents vs buying an iphone for 99$, but having to pay tax on the retail price of 700$. costco also gives you a month or so try out as many phones as you want before you have to commit to one.

Uh, Sales tax is only on the value of the item sold. Not on what it might retail for if you were buying outright. so, if you pay $99.95 for something with 9% tax, you only pay $108.95 for it.

It might be a California thing then. Any way they can bend us over..

I do not see how they can do that.... Sales Tax is figured based on the money deposited. Not the supposed value. Now, if the Phone was won in a raffle, then you might have to pay tax on full value. But if it is sold to you for $99.00, then that is the tax value.

My first purchase in California when I moved there was a red bull. My reaction to the cashier, "Wait, I have to pay to recycle this BEFORE I even use it?!?" She looked at me like it was totally normal and I was crazy. So glad I don't live there anymore.

Also reminds me of the time I was drinking at a buddies house out there and I threw away a beer bottle. He had this look on his face like I just punched his grandma. He began to lecture me on recycling. Sorry bro, in Texas we are doing good just to make it in the trash. Every time I visit now I make it a point to throw away my beer bottles in his trash just to get that punched granny in the face look.

This is komifornia. There is no logic here.

Unbundled sales price
The “unbundled sales price” is either:

  • The sales price you typically charge for the specific cell phone when sold without also requiring the purchase of a service contract (an unbundled transaction), or
  • If the above cannot be established based on your records, the fair retail selling price. The cost of the phone plus a markup of 18 percent will be regarded as a fair retail selling price."

I recycle cans only. I once took in 144lbs of glass bottles and got a whole 16$ for it.. Now I leave it for the bums to dig through my trash and find.

This probably fits in this thread.

So... ya'll remember my whole job search thing? Well its been moving along at a pace that would be eclipsed by grass growing.... on the north pole.

I submitted my resume 11 weeks ago... I called and spoke to HR 2 days after I submitted it. Since then i've had 8 interviews (yes, eight), 4 of them were in another state on the same day with 9 different people. And I still haven't gotten an offer. I've been told I will definitely get one, its just big company red tape BS or "due diligence" as the charismatic well spoken HR guy says.

Anyway... it sounds like I might have an offer early next week. But in my mind thats just the beginning of negotiations...

I'm not mad really, just perplexed. I just see this as time wasted. Every day that passes is another day that I have to wait to turn in my two weeks, then do training, before I can go out and do what they're hiring me to do. I've already started laying the ground work for this job. Letting potential customers know "Hey... i'm gonna be talking to you about _____ soon, so leave some room in your schedule ;) "
I guess i'm thinking too much like a commission sales person, not a soon to be salary+bonus sales person.

I think the people in HR might be hourly though LOL.

In the mean time.... i'm at my current job like...

We were planning a small gathering of friends for the 4th of July. Three or four couples, have some lobster and steamers, take the pontoon boat out for a while, light some fireworks off later. Somehow last evening it blossomed to 32 people. Moral of the story, do not leave your wife unattended out on the porch with 1.75 L of wine and a cell phone.
LOL now thats funny............
