It's one thing when you have lower level employees with email who maybe might not know better. It's a whole other level of stupid when a member of upper management uses reply all to say "Completed here" to 75 other people that don't care and do not need the email. Then top it off when said email was entirely informational and did not request or require a response or confirmation.

Kind of between a complaint and a good day.

I've been interviewing with a company for a few weeks. I just got the email that they chose me for the position! I am super excited but, they want me to start on Monday. I love the owners of the place I work for now, they've been great to me, but I don't want to leave them a 2 day notice. I know we have more than enough PT people to cover until my position is replaced but I don't want the possibility of having a bad reference on my resume.

What would you do?

Start your new job on Monday. Respectfully turn in your resignation in person and apologize for the short notice, expressing your gratitude for all of the opportunities that they have given you and everything they have done. In the end, don't put up a bad first impression with your new boss. He may understand, or he may feel as though you aren't as interested in starting with them as he thought.

I would never give someone a bad reference solely because they didn't give me a 2 week notice. Frankly, it doesn't matter much to me. However I've had new hires give me every excuse as to why they can't start when I need them to. That leaves me with a bad impression.

Just to clarify, this opportunity is seasonal in NY, but a year round in FL(where I'm moving at the end of the season).

I completely understand, but I consider my references as basically a "credit score" for my area of work. Seeming as I have no college degree, but more than enough experience.

Maybe I'm over thinking it.

Have you asked the new place if it is ok to start in two weeks? Sure they may want you to start Monday, but if they know you are currently employeed, they have to expect you to give your current employer a reasonable notice.

Sounds kind of poopty of the new place. would they want to be treated like this?

Maybe it's just my company, but we don't even allow two week notices for (most) salaried employees. It's more of a formality than anything. When we turn in our notice, IS department blocks us from the systems and we spend the remainder of our day hanging out while payroll cuts all of our checks. It makes perfect sense to me. Usually once someone has a new job they are mentally checked out of the old job. You kind of waste two weeks of pay on them and have the risk that they might do something to compromise the company in some way.

If one of my hourly associates quit, their workload can easily be spread amongst the remaining associates. The same applies to their managers. I've also never had a manager turn in a notice or quit that I didn't already expect to quit. When you work with people everyday you can tell when they are looking for a new job.

What I care about is the manner in which they decide they want to terminate their employment with us, not how much advanced notice. If someone worked hard and did an excellent job, but decided it was time to part ways, they would receive an excellent reference from me regardless of how much notice I was given. Now if they came and spit on my desk and threw their ID card at me and was like "I'm out bitches" then yeah, go shove your reference. As long as it's respectful, the notice doesn't mean much to me.

Everyone at our shop that has turned in a two week notice gets let go on the spot. Its a liability once they are done serving you and have their mind set on another job. No one wants to jump into a car someone else has halfway apart and have to finish it . Ironically the last three guys who left our shop looking for greener pastures have all come back and tried to beg their jobs back which my boss wont give them back.

As far as a trivial complaint from me, i woke up this morning and my neck was killing me,and i have a public speaking final tonight that i dont want to do.

I actually just got off the phone with them(new job). They completely understand and told me that they respect the fact that it is short notice and I should give my current employer a decent amount of notice. If I need 2 weeks, they'll wait.

My current employer knows that I have been seeking other opportunities. I think they'll let me go without a fight.

I was never a fan of hardwood floors until the wife made me pay out the ass for the main floor to get done a few years ago.

I got an upright carpet cleaner to prep the house to be sold and because it was cheaper than hiring someone to clean the carpet. It works great, but I had no idea how nasty the carpeting was. Now I hate carpeting even more.

Thankgahd most Florida houses have tile floors.

1 more.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I eat chicken allllllll the time. My animal protein diet consisted mostly of chicken. I would go through about 10+lbs of chicken breast per week.

As of about a week ago, I can't stand the sight or smell of raw chicken. I didn't have a bad experience; something snapped and I just can't figure it out.

Maybe my pregnant wife's hormones are rubbing off on me.

I eat a TON of fish now. My wife hates the smell, lol.

Today I got pulled over on my ski because the angle of my nose stab was reckless. But he didn't give me a ticket and told me I could continue doing what I do because I was wearing a helmet and looked like I knew what I was doing. Lol.

Then I witnessed my gopro with all of my footage including the cop talk sink to the bottom of a 100 foot deep lake never to be seen again.

Friday I got the phone call from the company i've been interviewing with.

"Upper management has decided that their isn't enough opportunity in this space to justify bringing on a new team member blah blah blah. They're going to reevaluate the market in 6 months, if they change their mind, you're absolutely the first person we'll call."

So they're gonna make the guy who would've been my boss continue to cover the territory I would've covered.

I'm disappointed to say the least. I really thought it was going to be a great fit. But its begs the question: Do I want to work for a company that puts someone through ~11 interviews across 100+ days, agrees on compensation and then changes their mind?
I dunno, it still stings so i'm sure i'm a little bitter.

I still have a job and i'm making good money, so no biggie.

Yeah it was a lesson learned. I thought the chest mount was sturdy as hell but either my arm or pole slipped the clip right out. I'm gonna floaty and lanyard it. Tempted to get a metal mount instead of the slide clip and bolt and epoxy it to the chest mount. I love the view of the chesty. I picked up another hero 2 for 80$ on eBay do I'm not too upset. imo the video quality of the hero 2 was phenomenal..
