you could make a simple sight tube

Yeah the sight tube is my plan but since the walls are thin, I need to find a way to make sure they are perfectly sealed and will stay in place...from the outside. I realized after it was built and I had drilled the fuel cap hole, that I scrape my hand real bad getting it the tank and I can't make the hole any bigger or the fuel cap won't screw in place. It was a huge PITA to install the aft fitting because my hand can't reach the aft wall. You may notice the other two fittings are real close to the cap for this very reason.

Well I did it. Learned a few lessons that I know to avoid if I ever do anything like this again but my new vacuum bagged carbon hood turned out pretty good. It weighs 4.5 lbs (painted). Breather holes have been cut but the tubes haven't been added yet. It was lighter but at the last minute I decided it needed some reinforcement because it could flex a little where the pole hits it and I didn't want that. The visual look was the outer shell right out of the mold before trimming/sanding.

way to go ...thats really light and turned out great . but.. why did you decide to make a new hood ?

I guess the biggest reason is... I like to tinker and work on stuff. I've fixed pretty much everything on this hull that I can now so the only other thing to do is make it lighter.

I've ridden quite a few different hulls now but I like the way this hull rides so much now that I want to splash my creation and make the entire hull out of carbon. However, before attempting anything on that scale, I wanted to try it out on a hood. That way if I decided it was too much effort, I would at least have a lightweight hood. Plus I could learn from my mistakes on a semi-small scale.

AHA .. .I figured that the hull was coming . I think you should run with it .you have tweekend and modified it so much , I ll bet you can sell a few of them if you were going that route. But a lighter/ stronger hull would be cool ... Do you remember what your hull weighed ? I was at 62 on mine

62? Holy crap! I think mine was like 75-80lbs when I took delivery. I was hoping to get into the low 50's for the hull which doesn't seem all that difficult if you're running 62 on a fiberglass hull and it's holding up. I just did a crude weigh of the hull. It's about 265lbs with everything including a 16lb battery (minus gas).

I really have no intention to make a bunch of hulls and sell them. If a friend were to contact me, I may consider making/selling one but the real goal is to get myself a lighter hull that's dialed in the way I want it. Since I can't buy a hull like that, I have to build it.

Well it'll be a little while before I start splashing the hull since that requires stripping everything including turf and pump shoe. Winter project without a doubt.

Last ride of the season… Got my hull dialed in well enough to go full out, slide, turn, and remain neutral in all other conditions that I ride in. Made this hull perfect IMO so a new project will begin soon…. It might be a little boring of a video but I suck at video editing so I didn’t touch it.

Highlighted scene at 3:50, I made a little chop to blast through and at 4:20, I build up some speed on another run and hit some the waves at a weird angle and I eat it. In fairness though, I’ve never been able to ride any hull across wake like that. I held on though and would’ve ridden it out had my knee not pulled the lanyard you.

Lol. I'll tell him this was dug up. He doesn't ride anymore. He got into slalom skiing and mountain biking. Pabloescobar and I were both giving him crap about it last weekend.
