So you want a new one for power, but only plan on riding stock with maybe a pipe? Just upgrade the power on the square. $8k buys you ALOT of motor.
Has Yamaha ever fixed the peeling paint issues on the hood? I'd hate to buy a new ski and deal with that issue. I know it's the mold release that caused the issue and in hotter climates it is worse, but have they changed anything to solve the issue?
I agree with propulsion. If handling is important to you, the 08+ hull really bites if you commit to the turn. You can spend all the money you want attempting to re-create the handling characteristics of the new hull on a squarenose, but it won't happen - its a completely different bottom deck.
I bought a '14 hull for this years winter project and put the driveline from my squarenose into it.. It is still fine for messing around on, just like any superjet, but if putting around and hitting your own wakes in the only thing you do, you will 100% have to change to a pre 08 steering cable. The new one simply does not turn on a dime like the old one does, less throw. I will be doing that mod soon enough when I find some time.
Fortunately for me if I don't like the new ski I'll let my wife ride it and I'll build the SN. It's hard to say whether I'll like it without owning/riding one. People have different opinions about skis and it really only matters in the end if I like it.
Totally agree! Just hate for you to spend all that money on one ski and then some if you decide to build the square. If money is no object then go for it! However $8000 could build you a killer ski and still have some left over for another square to give the wifey.
At some point old ski's just do not make sense to keep running. New Ski's work everytime. I have honestly thought about selling my Freak and buying a New SJ and building up Stock Class which is basically a mild limited. poop does not break on new ski's.
Because he's on the X.Why not look at the Kawasaki 1500.
Possible to build an aftermarket hull with 701 for not much more ($10k)?
