Thinking of buying a new Superjet?

So you want a new one for power, but only plan on riding stock with maybe a pipe? Just upgrade the power on the square. $8k buys you ALOT of motor.

Has Yamaha ever fixed the peeling paint issues on the hood? I'd hate to buy a new ski and deal with that issue. I know it's the mold release that caused the issue and in hotter climates it is worse, but have they changed anything to solve the issue?

I knew the blue hoods had this problem. Are white and black affected to the same or similar degree or is it blue-specific?

I agree with propulsion. If handling is important to you, the 08+ hull really bites if you commit to the turn. You can spend all the money you want attempting to re-create the handling characteristics of the new hull on a squarenose, but it won't happen - its a completely different bottom deck.

I bought a '14 hull for this years winter project and put the driveline from my squarenose into it.. It is still fine for messing around on, just like any superjet, but if putting around and hitting your own wakes in the only thing you do, you will 100% have to change to a pre 08 steering cable. The new one simply does not turn on a dime like the old one does, less throw. I will be doing that mod soon enough when I find some time.

Fortunately for me if I don't like the new ski I'll let my wife ride it and I'll build the SN. It's hard to say whether I'll like it without owning/riding one. People have different opinions about skis and it really only matters in the end if I like it.

Totally agree! Just hate for you to spend all that money on one ski and then some if you decide to build the square. If money is no object then go for it! However $8000 could build you a killer ski and still have some left over for another square to give the wifey.

Possible to build an aftermarket hull with 701 for not much more ($10k)?

At some point old ski's just do not make sense to keep running. New Ski's work everytime. I have honestly thought about selling my Freak and buying a New SJ and building up Stock Class which is basically a mild limited. poop does not break on new ski's.

Yeah I agree. It's kind of like buying an old dirt bike. I kept buying peoples old dirt bikes that eventually needed work and in the end I bought a new one and haven't had to work on it for 2 years other than maintenance. It just makes sense to me. I'm going to look at Superjets this weekend.

Why not look at the Kawasaki 1500. If you have a trailer it would be perfect , you wont need to do anything to make it faster and its reliable its fun to ride too after a learning curve .

I spent years on a square nose, one of the first to ever ride one in fact and race.
Never liked the round nose at all, pivot point was to high and it wasn't as stable.
Fast forward a decade and I rode an 08+ hull and again it was good but not home like the old sn. Then I rode an 08+ with square nose pole mount and lowered hood and that's the best super jet, faster hull, hooks up better carves better, surfs better. And doesn't have any negatives over old SN.
So now I have 08 with wide tray kit and lowered pole pivot.
Don't ride my sn anymore.
Just sits in shop.
Has 780cc 6m 128 rod powervalve cast dasa with mfi and total loss it's a 64mph ski that rips off bottom like most free ride boats and I don't enjoy riding it anymore.
So I think you won't be disappointed with an 08+ hull and a b pipe with lowered pole pivot.

glad you went with the new ski, last year i picked up an extremely low hour 100% stock 07 round nose and it was a great investment. It was the closest i could get to a new ski locally. Fuel/Oil only for the last 2 summers straight, no missed days, no tinkering. I dont even bring tools with me anymore because i know it wont leave me floating in the lake. When you buy a ski that's had 15 different backyard mechanics "fix" it you're just asking for a nightmare.
