you guys are forgetting about a larger market......... Everywhere else in the world. Wamilton sales ski's like that all the time for stupid amounts of money....... The Europeans will pay that, the Russians will pay that.

magic74,

im still new to this site also, but what these guys are saying is they can get a lot more ski with $8k (meaning they can build one for $8k). A few skis pop up around 8k-10k that are great deals!

For example, I am starting a build and my budget is 12K...I started out buys two Yamaha 700 Raiders for $700 with a two place trailer (one with a 62T motor and one with a 61x). Now I have most of my important parts 62T/61x motor, ebox, pump, etc...and now I can part out the rest and probably make money. I should have a damn nice ski for around 12k which if I had someone else build it and bought new...probably would cost 18-20k

Sorry for getting off topic.

It is a used ski. and just like all the hot rods, boats etc... your boat is only worth what someone is willing to give you for it. no more, and no less. In this economy, when I would say about half 1/2 of the people on these boards only ride in the summer this is a guess of what this gentleman might be able to get for it. I say 8,000, I bought a 96 rn from a guy for 4000 a year ago in way better economic times. that has a bigger motor and every feature he has minus the footholds, all the work was done by wammer. I know it is a bit of an older model, but the same principle applies. Its only worth what someone will give you for it. Damn there are full carbon hulls with bigger motors on here that sell for 8-14k, and this ski isn't even in the same ballpark as far as power. I am sure that it is a really nice ski, but...... its not in the same league. In my humble opinion.

well if you guys have any of the links I would love to see them so I can compare and make the right decision for my next ski

Also In general I think that as far as most (not the newbies, the established members) people on this site are concerned, very few would go to a dealership to buy a ski, they will buy parts and make a ski, they would buy an new hull, or a new engine from an aftermarket builder. I doubt the they really even take the stock ski price into the equation, not many people on here would buy one.

Hence I suggested advertising the ski internationally a few posts ago.

No mine was a white one that was build by wammer for the guy I bought it off of, 2 years ago. I think wammer did that one quite a few years ago maybe 2004ish when the guy lived on the West Coast. And believe me I have beat the crap out of this hull! I am not that good and attempt alot of failed tricks and the build quality is great. but it isnt worth more than what I paid for it even before the economic collapse.

It's all about the market. In this market (aka guys on this site) they buy their own parts and work on their own skis. So to list this ski on this site, you might get 8K...

Anyone here looking to spend 10K plus on a ski would likely just build a Matrix, Rickter, Superfreak, BOB, etc. So in this market, unfortunately the ski isn't worth close to what has been put into it.

Correct me if Im wrong.

Bingo! I am a good case study here. I bought a brand new '06 ski when I started in this sport, and that was because I didn't know a damn thing. I got it into my head one day that I wanted a standup (I'd ridden one once a few years before) and so I started to look around. I could afford a new one, but I looked at some used modded skis, and frankly I got scared: I had no idea what most of the mods were and whather they would be what I wanted, and I had no idea how reliable a ski like that would be. So, I looked at the SXR and the SJ, saw that the SJ was lighter and more expensive, so I figured that must be the best ski! I went and found the cheapest one I could at a dealer and snapped it up.

I would NEVER do that today, but only becasue I have learned so much about skis of this site and the riders here. But, the kind of person who would pay over $8k for this ski is the kind of guy I was back then, only without the fear of a modded ski. Frankly, that person is going to be very hard to find, and definitely isn't hanging out on the X.

I am in the market for an upgrade. Ajbaudoux is right. Spending 7-9K on your ski, or 10-14K for a ski that is in whole other league. It is a pretty easy choice.

Also as others have written, people looking for a newer ski might be weary of a heavily modified ski. I was when I was looking for my first ski last year. Now I have realized buying a fully built ski will save thousands and hundreds of hours of labor.

Magic74, My dumbazz is 17000.00 into my 98 roundnose SJ and still utilizing a stk hull. How much is my ski worth today? About 7000.00 to the right person on the right day with the stars in perfect alignment. lol I have wasted approx 3000.00 in trying different setups that I did not like to get where I am today. You keep talking about the price of a new SJ, the only Yamaha parts left on my ski are as follows, hull, stop/start switch, waterbox, 1 ex hose, motor mounts, cases (heavily modded), starter and bendix, driveshaft, wear ring and stator section. Every other part is aftermarket. My point being that I would NEVER buy a new Yamaha SJ for any amount of money, I would simply shop, shop, and shop some more until I found a used one that has 90% of the parts that I prefer already on it. There are ways to build really bitchin ski's cheap if you have alot of patience and babysit the for sale threads and ebay 24/7 for 1 year! Crammit has a full carbon XFT w/all the goodies and is approx 14k into the entire ski-PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE and saves a ton of money!!!

The post that stands out for me in this thread mentions how this ski is "nothing special." granted there are a lot of great parts on this ski, but it's not a custom hull, it's not cut down at all, it's purely an 09 SJ with carbon reinforcement and basic motor work that could have been done at jetworks for a fraction of the cost. The reinforcement and footholds could have been done in just about anyones garage. sure a carbon fiber hood is nice but not a necessity.

It blows me away someone would spend this kind of money purely to have the work done by "some of the best in the industry" without doing some homework and research.

Granted I only ride a couple of SN skis but for 25 grand, i'd have a couple aftermarket hulls. I love the super jets to the Nth degree, however as everyone says, this is a used boat. Once ink hit the paper the ski took a hit, labor costs are never recoverable, and parts are used. I realize i'm just repeating everyone else on the board and reading this is completely redundant.

One question i've not seen asked or answered is
WHY IS THIS SKI FOR SALE IN THE FIRST PLACE? theoretically. I know this thread started as a feeler to see what it may be worth but why after the investment would one think.. "now that i've put this much in it, i think i'll sell it...."

The three options available are:
1. Keep it, ride it, love it
2. Sell it as is, realize your taking a hit, learn your lesson and move on.
3. Part it out. There are some good parts on this ski that people would love to have. this is the most labor intensive and most profitable option.

Good luck,
Garret

2007 Yamaha Superjet Stand Up Jet Ski - $7000 (west fort worth)

I have decided to sell my baby, my 2007 yamaha superjet. I bought this boat brand new in july of 07 from stadium yamaha, than turned it into a freestyle boat. I put everything on this boat and have well over 32,000 into it, so the price is very firm, but I promise you that you will not be disappointed. I have receipts for almost every part that I bought. Has a even 190 compression in both cylinders and starts right up. E-mail more for more info and more detailed pictures..
