This melt down just might have me stumped..

I have not read last few pages...but kevbo just made a comment +.002" would have never been this point ....
Anyway, something for you all to think about:
There is a ski, that turns 7800+ rpm, w/under .003" p/c (61×) runs run57+mph ,50-1 w/k2 oil
Has size 80 mainjets/122.5 ls
Has over40psi pop off w/44 carbs
My point i guess is, that there are alot of people have no clue to fix a problem, only cause more confusion,
And cost. Some others can make good things happen, bigger isnt always better, be carfull of some words

Ill bet those pistons had a LOT of taper. Or else you found a way to make a lot of power with very low combustion temps and do it with less fuel than anyone else, which is great. I doubt that the average SJ owner will be too successful going down that road. The issue here is a piston that got too tight because it got too hot, I can think of two very easy remedies.

Ski is starting to run just as good as it did before it blew! Better at times really. It is almost complete dialed in and the plugs are starting to look real good. Been able to ride it varying from 6-7k rpm for minutes at a time with no problems.

Specs before meltdown: 125 pilot 150 main and 34 psi popoff with 1.5 n/s
Specs after and just about dialed in : 2.0 n/s, 25 psi popoff, 127.5 pilot and 157.5 main. Quite a difference....
