Today was a good day - the counter to trivial complaints

Congrats. I haven't slept much and my son just turned 2! Be attentive to your wife, baby may come first but mama is not second. She will need your presence and support. Just do it and don't ask why! You'll see, congrats and take care!

Today was not a good day, it was the best day of your life. In a few months, you are going to be holding her watching TV and something sappy is going to come on and you are going to find yourself balling like a baby... it's ok.

I almost cried this morning, but I didn't want to be the only one in the whole room crying!

I had my second kid back in may and i am in the midst of what you are about to get into, the late night feedings, and trying to figure out why they are crying and all the fun stuff that goes with it can drive you mad sometimes, but it is the greatest thing you will ever experience.

A secret admirer of mine from back up in NY sent me a jar of pasta sauce from my favorite and the best italian restaurant I have ever gone too. It was one of those little surprises that really makes you smile, and it might have cost her $5-$10 bucks for the jar.

So I did what any man should do and used all the sauce and made Chicken Parm for dayssssssssssssssssssssssss! Wow it was so good.

Breaded cutlets topped with sauce, fresh mozzarella slices, along with some romano, percorino, and asiago shavings.

Amen...

And you can never take too many videos or pictures. Ever. My kids are 3 & 5 and I wish I had more videos of them when they were 1 & 2.

Thanks! I'm super excited! First child so I have no idea what to expect.

Everything and nothing. Do not get used to anything - good OR bad, it will change in a week, lol. They will exhaust you and wear you down - but then they do something adorable and you just melt. It is amazing watching them go from a helpless little potato to sitting up, crawling, walking, and developing their own little personalities. The first few months are rough but when they start smiling and interacting it is so much better. Congrats!

This This and This... ^^^

My wife has been working crazy hours this week because they are integrating all new software to process orders at the warehouse she manages. She's a massive over-achiver and really dedicated manager. She's been working 11-12 hour days for 6 days straight.
Anyway, since she knew she would be working long hours this week, she pre-planned sending our kiddos to the inlaws for the week so I didn't have the burden of doing everything all week. Like I said, she's awesome.

On a typical morning, my wife wakes me up at 6:30-6:45 and we get the kids ready for daycare, I get ready for work, and then I take them to school, and then I go to work. My office is 5-10 minutes from my house. But because of the daycare trip, its about 30 min. So its pretty much necessary that I get up at 6:40ish.

So, no kids = Swapmeet gets to sleep in! My wife has been leaving the house at 5:30am all week, and I told her "unless you need me, DO NOT wake me up." Plus I told my boss "Um hey... I might be a little late every day this week, don't judge me." He's like "Ok, whatever."

I guess I need to explain that all I ever want to do is sleep in. Pretty much ever since we've had kids, i've been tired LOL. On the weekends my kids are in our bed at 7:00am if not earlier. So unless my wife gets up and keeps them quiet, I never ever get to sleep past 7:00. Ever.

Sleeping in this week has been 75% as refreshing to me as a full on vacation.

Also, my daughters bedroom is directly above my garage. So on top of any wrenching on ski's that needs to take place, i'm trying to do some restoration to a 59' Biscayne. Due to our typical week night routine, I get about 1 hour every night to make any progress (or noise) before I have to shut it down so I don't wake her up. Its just not enough time. So this week I rocked out on the Biscayne and it looks like i'll be able to drive it again in a week or so.

But I digress....
Why is today a good day?

This morning, I woke up on my own at 6:45 feeling like a freshly printed $100 bill. I got to work at 7:30.... and that's including a stop for gas station coffee.

I miss my kids dearly, and can't wait to scoop them up Saturday morning, but this time off to make progress on projects plus sleeping in has been fantastic.

That book is a good one. My kids are 12 and 16 and still makes me smile to think about reading that one.

My favorite books to read my daughter were the Junie B Jones stories. They are hilarious and you'll have as much fun reading them as your daughter will listening to them. My daughter, who is now 21, brought one to one of her classes in College for some presentation. When she got home she tossed it to me and said "could you please read this to me one more time.....and don't forget the voices". I was literally crying I was laughing so hard reading that thing, and I got a huge hug when I was done....win/win. Terrific writing.
