Custom/Hybrid Trailering your Rickter or A/M hull

How do you guys tie down your rickters or other a/m hulls (without a bow eye) to your trailer? I've got some idea just seeing what everyone else does.

My Matrix came with a bow eye and I added one to my Superjet as well. Much better for getting towed with in the surf as well so there are other benefits to adding it.

I also use climbing straps on the bow of both skis. Click in and push the ski all the way forward and just have to tie down the back

Load it backwards??? I never understood the mentality of not incorperating a bow eye on a ski ever since Kawi introduced the SXR. The D ring tow loop just doesn't cut it.

Nice out of the box thinking tricky. Now you just need to get that rubber bow reciever in metal and slap some turf on the mating surface so you would have a solid reciever to LOCK your Rickter on your trailer, then you'd have a winner!

We use one of these to work with all nose-bondline-free hulls. Turfed on the inside to prevent scratching to the hull, then we wrap a ratchet strap from the trailer around the handle pole bracket and back onto the trailer.
Please do not criticize the finish as it is NOT at all a final product, just something we slapped together to see if it'd work out.

We also use Stainless Bow-Loops on our hulls with are plenty strong for strapping it down to a trailer as well.

What about the back of the ski. Rickter, at least XFS, doesn't have bow eye and I dont want to mess up the padding.
I was thinking to add a bow eye.

My home away from home.
When installing the front tow loop, inside the hull I backed it with an AL plate to help distribute the pressure. It worried me to just put the loop in, in fear of either cracking it, or yanking it through the hull in a crazy tow in situation.

On the back corners of the hull we put in some stock bow eyes on my sons hull. Same on my Superfreak and they worked great and didn't get in the way of the turf and pad in the back center of the hull. Hope that helps.

Could you post a picture??

Thanks

i just drilled a hole with a stepper bit right in the center where is should have been in the first place... if your standing there while your riding, your doing it wrong.

I agree but I like the idea to install it on the sides as it clears the steering nozzle.

id put a larger backing plate behind those U bolts, i've seen them rip through more than once. when i get my hitch carrier built, im going to make a kind of "net" that goes over the ski. microfibre where it touches the ski itself, and hugs the ski to the trailer/cart/basket it is on.

I just drag mine, you just need to replace the steering nozzle when you get to where you want to ride. image.jpg
