My XM trim cable is just about shot is there something better or cheaper or both ? I don't mind adapting something as long as it's bomber. Sorry if it's been posted before.

I just installed a Skat Track cable for my trim system. It looks to be strong but I know others have had some issues with it. It is also not the cheapest....~$90. From what I have read in other posts, contact Terry Cable and have one made. Specify SST when you order. Cable will be alot cheaper as well.

Pro-Tec cable isn't the greatest. I have a Pro-Tec trim on one of my RNs. It is changed to an up nozzle not a drop. And the cable does not last. 2 cables in three years. Plus the ends are small and take the barrel adaptor. On my other RN I have a Wamiltions trim and that cable is the bomb. Very heavy duty and all stainless steel. Not sure on the price of the Wamiltions cable or where it even comes from.
My 2 cents

If all you need is the wire rope and your sheath is in good condition you can have terry cable make you a new rope just give them dimensions of the wire rope and ends you need on it. I did this with my trim cable and throttle cable. 15 bucks for the trim and 12 bucks for the throttle.

The housing is rusting on the XM cable the inner wire looks great with no fish hooks. Dam I was hoping that the pro tec was stronger, thanks for the report Moto .

I just go to the local bike shop and get an all stainless tandem bike brake cable, its 15' and only like $12. I have a protec with the trim up, but I mounted the cable at the pump different then how protect said to. I get more throw and a lot more solid feel the way its mounted. Plus it doesnt have the "stretch" feel that I had with my old cable.

Thanks for the great info guys ! I think the morel of the story is : if you compromise the grey spiral jacket , repair it soon or your cable is going to be toast in the salt.

yes the issue is almost no one makes a stainless liner for the cable, once the gray plastic wears off its toast,i called around a bunch trying to get one made out of total stainless, but got busy and stoped short,if anyone finds one full stainless let us know
