Trinity Composites Matrix Pro Hull

Trinitycomposites says your hull should weigh 105. I thought that would have put you about 8 lbs lighter than my finished fiberglass Rickter. But I am 21lbs lighter than your Trinity. I guess I could attribute most of that to my carbon EME chamber that was 10 lbs lighter than the normal PF pipe, and I am running a little battery too. I wish you could ahve weighed it empty, I am curious how close to 105 it was and what all that included (hood for example).

Ski looks awesome BTW

I was with Bobby when he weighed it so 104.9 lbs was the bare hull with just the RRP handpole bracket installed, hood hardware, all the plumbing and the single Versiplug-R. The hood was another 13.8 lbs with all hardware installed.

The problem with comparing weights from ski to ski is that not all things are equal between all the little things like batteries, boxes and even fire extinguishers. I really wish I had of weighed it dry before it ever hit the water but couldn't lift the ski onto the scale on my own.

I weighed it right after riding too so who knows how much water weight is left in the engine, pipe, waterbox or even in the turf after a ride. I'm sure that waterbox of yours is a big difference plus i have a full 5lb fire extinguisher strapped in my tray, that's 15 lbs right there in just those 2 items.

Having not ridden a Rickter yet, i can't speak to how it rides but I know that the Matrix rides like a much lighter ski than it really is.

OK, I assumed the hood was included in that 105 estimate. Afterall it's not like you can use another hood on a Trinity.

My Rickter FS-1 weighed 117.5 with the hood, RRP pole bracket, all the hull plumbing, exhaust tube and one scupper - so basically the same equipment as yours and was only 1.2 lbs lighter. Plus my scale is only accurate to .5 lbs so that could be closer to .7 or 1.7 lbs. The bad news for me is that the EME chamber cracked so I will be gaining ~12 lbs going to aluminum, but I ate a salad for lunch today so we'll see.....

thats exactly the way my REV was...it was a heavy ski but felt like it ride RIGHT on top of the water

Well, it took a couple rides but it finally happened today. Previously the Matrix felt a bit foreign and the Superjet still felt more natural but today it finally set in, the Matrix is the only ski for me now. It has already become predictable and my balance has finally adapted to where I know where the ski is going to be at every moment. With every tank thru this ski I fall deeper and deeper in lust. The engine is flawless, the pump is incredible, the EPIC is incredible and the entire package is 100% my dream ski.

My trim cable broke within a couple rides but I got it fixed up last week and was having fun with it today until my Wife reminded me I wasn't wearing a helmet and that I was to stop, lol. I did manage to try my first flatwater backy attempts before she shut me down and managed to get the ski upside down a few times. a little more commitment on my part and the right setup wake and I think a flatwater backy is more than feasable. I just need to find my balls and remember to bring my helmet next time. :bigok:

It is nice to FINALLY get some feedback and not some for sale post!!! I am not being a smart azz here, I just could not fathom that every single person that bought 1 ditched it immediatley!!! It's really nice to here feedback from someone who is actually committed to the hull and is keeping it long enuf to get used to it!!! I rode a Q8 last fall and hated it, BUT I only rode it 5 minutes, not near enuf time to make a fair evaluation! The 1st time I rode a XFT I hated it to and now I can't stay off the dam thing when it's around. lol I think Bobby has got build qaulity like no other in the price range that he is selling. If u go to 14k hulls, I would think the build qaulity has to be = if not better, but for 14k you can buy a garage full of Matrix hulls and still have AWESOME build qaulity.

I was honestly starting to think that the Matrix had to ride as bad or maybe even worse than a REV and it sounds like you have proven that to be wrong. Congrats on one hell of a nice ski!!!

Thanks Gil, personally I still think the Matrix is a no brainer. There may be other hulls on the market with comparable handling but they are nowhere near the quality or build strength of Bobby's work and are usually way more money. From what I am gathering from all the feedback the Rickter is a very similar ride to the Matrix in the way the nose rides and the hull pops and turns. IMO, the only reason the Rickter is enjoying such popularity is because of it's availability.

The Matrix is the future, not just because its a sweet handling hull but because it's creator is a true craftsman with a vision and a dedication to producing the best products rather than a bottom line and profit margins and it shows in every product that bears the Trinity Composites label. Other hull builders may outsell Bobby in the short haul but I guarantee that his work and reputation will continue to set the standard for excellence for years to come.

I can't speak to the reasons others have sold off their Matrix's but I have absolutely no intention of selling mine anytime soon. I have ridden many different hulls and this one has it all.

Ha, maybe that should be it's name..."Daywalker"...all of their strengths, none of their weaknesses, lol.

We spent a day last weekend on Lake Diddy with Jeremy Parr, Johhny and Bobby Howering putting the Matrix thru it's paces. Here's some of the highlights...not as impressive as the lightweight "Pro" version with the 1000 X-Scream but still very fun and alot cheaper.

could Parr not backflip it????????

Not in the 1/2 hr or so he rode it anyway. His feet kept coming out of the holds because I didn't get the 9mm underpad in the tops yet so he wouldn't really give it a solid go. Nothing like a collision between an ankle and the tray to shorten a competition season. His one attempt shows that a backflip is not a given with this hull and powerplant and that a solid effort will be required to flatwater backy this setup.

An XS1000 would do the trick nicely but the SS865 isn't quite enough to get the "ES" hull around with as much ease. It is likely possible but it's gonna take alot of work getting it nailed down. A "Pro" version hull or maybe a -2" to -4" ES would make it much easier as well. Lucky for me I didn't buy this ski for doing backflips. :bigok:

parrdaddy

No he will not!
I'm not so sure your ski won't flip right now, I just was not willing to try without being connected to it ;) The one attempt I made was more of an "I'm gonna try a flip.......oh wait I hope I don't get jacked.....so lets try and land softly" kind of attempt. Overall, I really like the ski with the SS865 power, it's a great setup and plenty of fun. It really had me screwed up when I got back on my SJ again.....it happens every time I ride a Matrix!

My Matrix is now #7 of 8. Congrats to ScottS who is the proud new owner of a -2" 2010 Trinity Matrix ES. :Banane09::Banane09::Banane09::Banane09:

Scott ordered his just days after riding mine in the surf and will be working his tail off over the Thanksgiving holiday to get it ready to ride.

It is the first -2" Matrix hull produced to date and is done in bright red gelcote top and bottom and will be getting an x-metal adjustable pole, X-Scream SS865 package and a stock pump with TBM Stuffer, skat 13/19 and an X-metal trim system.

Other than pump and -2" hull our skis are very comparable setups so it will be a good match for side by side comparison.

Let the build begin!!

definitly have a write up comparing the two, I have a pro ordered and am debating between -2" and -4" so definitly lookin for some feedback!

For sure, it will be a good match up , Scott and I spend as much time on each others skis as we do our own.
The only major difference will be the hull length and pumps.

Scott brought it by the shop the other day as he was bringing it home...

the red gelcoat looks fantastic and the hull is STOUT...all around the bondrail and lips very nice and well made

felt incredibly strong and had a wonderful fit and finish!
