Turf Wars Jetski VS Surfer

I'm surprized this hasn't happened sooner, both sports fighting for the same limited comodity (waves). Can you guys ride there in OZ were surfers are present? We stay far away from them here in the states, that would be the absolute death of the sport here. Unfortunately for us many surfers have this "elitist entitlement" attitude like they have priority to surf anywhere they please and go out of their way to paddle out in the same hard-to-get-to-out-of-the-way places we ride just to be dicks.

He seemed pretty outnumbered, what was he gunna do

If he didn't paddle out amongst the guys on ski's he wouldn't have anything to worry about. This is a common sight in Victoria, Australia. For the most part the surfers are fine, and most skiers come from a surfing background. You do however, get the odd surfer(s) that paddle out where you are just to be a pain in the ass.

We've had a few confrontations here in the last week....ah summer, gotta love it!

P.S....I'm about 4 hours away from the the location of the video above.

Let me just take a minute to thank god there aren't douche bags like that around here. I'll take crappy lake waves any day over having to fight for good salty ones.

What???? Better you than me! The douches aren't all that common and Ocean waves are way more consistent. BTW 70 degrees here all last week, I can put up with a little traffic and a few A holes for that.

Wtf...

then its time to go in or move down the beach...do u surf?? I do and it sucks when someone on a ski is riding near you...it is illegal (at least here) to ride in the surf so the surfers do have priority..dont cause problems over crap waves..its not worth it....that why i only ride at dawn and if someone paddles out i leave..simple as that

i know you can't lump them all together but unfortunately i have not been able to reason with surfers in all most every instance.

i ride in a county approved jet ski zone where the only water activity allowed is jet skiing within the 800' boundary, and i still get cussed out by them when they are having a float session.

i'm developing a strong dislike for them and their attitude of ocean ownership.

i kind of wish that kick had snapped the board.

wydopen, i understand your point, but in my case these guys are in my 800' and acting like i have no right to be there. i would understand that attitude if i idled through the line up at the inlet.

that's just the surfer in you talking... he he he

nah, I understand your point... Here if I see a surfer I leave too... It's not worth the 10 min argument and stress to just have to leave anyway..

The law states you have top be 100ft from all surfers/bathers and if they encroach on you, it may not be fair but you have to leave...

^^^^ pretty self explanatory...what part dont u understand??

I'm a surfer too, and the part I don't understand is why a surfer would paddle out amongst a bunch of skiers that have been there for an hour? I know that beach, and the waves there are far from the best where they are riding.

Yeah, surfers have been around for a long time, and I respect that (I mean I surfed for 15 years before I turned to a ski because I was sick of all the childish bull:):):):) in the lineup) but it seems like change took off and surfers missed the plane.

I do however agree that sometimes it's better and easier to just leave, but where does it stop? You could apply that same train of though to anything in life, then where do we end up? Hey man, get off my road, I've been driving here longer, or hey man get out of our country, we were here for centuries before you showed up, but what the hell, kill us and take what you want.

Go down the chain far enough and surfers ain't as awesome as they think they are....this coming from a surfer.

All seaweed heads

When Hurricaine Bill came through there was 15 foot plus glassy giant waves at Matanzas inlet. There were a hundred surfers padled out in the mouth of the inlet where we normally ride. Also the waves were late breaking and the surfers wouldnt even drop in on the giant sets. Me and Ted were having a blast dropping in on those giants and the buthole surfers that wouldnt even drop in on a wave and were getting pounded by 10 foot whitewater heads just kept on screaming at me and him while we rode past them on those great sets. We finally left because of them but they were right in the inlet mouth and shouldnt have been there. Well most of us agree that they are the dummies that wont share the surf. PS we usually give way to them anyway.
