Used Superjet Pricing

Nellis is what I was thinking of..thank you.

I don't pilot, I am a passenger on a weekly basis...lol.

My nephew just went into the army. Did his basic and paratrooper training at Fort Benning, GA, then did Advanced Infantry at Ft. Bragg and is now over in Italy. He is one of the guys who actually wants to go over to Iraq.

Thats awesome. It's guys like your Nephew that are the backbone of our Military. Hats off to your newphew and your family for supporting him.:usa2:

My across the street neighbor flys the F22 here in Virginia and is always out in Alaska training :hail:

Thats awesome. The F-22 is an incredible plane. I read about the Red Flag operation they conducted out in Alaska and they said it wasn't even fair. The F-22 just completely dominated the OPFOR (Opposing Force). There were times where the 22 would actually get right on an adversaries 6 and kill the adversary without the adversary even knowing it.

Just a post back on topic then back to the AF.

I look at used skis and think that there is no way you can build a ski for what they sell for. Used skis are a steal even when they are over $4000. If you want you can buy a decent beatup stock ski for $3000 then invest $1000 in parts and countless hours in labor. Another $200 in bolts and things like hood straps and such. After a summer of working on it you have your perfect ski and it cost (not including labor) $4500. Wouldn't it be smarter to buy a ski with the things that you want already and just ride? Maybe do a little thing here or there like change out the throttle becasue you want an angled UMI instead of straight.

My story, I just switched skis this year. I went from a 01 to a 96. Yea I went down in years but I up graded from a limited ski shortned stock pole to a ski that has about everythgin. Great paint job, AC pole, 5mm stroker ADA cylinder 850cc motor, Full Spetrums, Lowered hood and bracket, All Xmetal parts, It is set up and the difference in price was less than a bore and port job. And I got the AC pole the Full Specs lowered hood, sweet paint job and all the xmetal stuff was a freebie part of the deal. The only thing I done to the ski was add 2 bilge pumps and cut the AC pole down. And took it apart to make sure all the bolts are tight.

But after this long post I am trying to say that 5k for a built ski is still a deal when a 3K ski will end up at the same dollar figure after all the tuning headaches and aftermarket stuff needed to build the ski up to what you wanted but didn't want to spend

That's exactly the way I think.

when a lot of people buy new skis they finance them. when you buy used you can spend a few thousand then build it up over time, kind of like having payments. + i think a lot of people enjoy working on their own skis and building them up themselves. that way you know exactly what was done. if i payed $9000 for a ski with a built stroker motor and then threw a rod after a couple of rides and destroyed the motor i probably wouldn't be happy. usually when i buy skis i look for ones that are projects that way i can do everything myself and i'm sure of what's been done.

what talsiver said,kind-a, its easier to get 3000 to have the ski and add on as you can afford to,verses saving another 2000 while not ridding

I completely agree, but if you have the money and don't have the time to build up a ski then you are better off buying a mint ski that has been recently built up.

I can't see that. If you saved 3000 for a ski get a loan for the remainder. Anyone would loan you some cash on a ski if you put 2/3 of the value down. Becasue you know that when you build the ski with used parts (if you can find them) it is going to cost you the same as making a payment. If you have to buy new parts then you are spending a LOT more than what you payment would be.

A 2K loan payment for 2 years is only about 100 a month. You will be putting way more than that in the ski ever month just doing it slowly. Heck foot holds alone are will sit you back 2 or 3 months worth of payments after you add up the holds, turf, glue, underpadding, and beer. That is figuring that Labor is FREE. And if you have to purchase a pipe WOW you better not eat for a few months.

And if you make payments you will barrel rolling you way through the summer instead of asking if you have enough power or the right mods.

I Did you ever have any overseas tours Chic?

The only two places I went overseas was Turkey for four months and Ramstein for two weeks. I had orders to Ramstein when I first went in, but they got cancelled. :banghead: Germany was one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. I'm planning on taking the wife there someday.

Be glad you're not going to Vance AFB in Oklahoma---it supposedly is worse than Altus AFB in Southwest Oklahoma where I spent six years. :frown:

Here's my take... I would say average pricing for a RN with some mods is around $3000 - $4500 (give or take). Like others have mentioned, you will never get out what you put into a ski (aftermarket part wise). It's like an old car that you sink $40K into and sell for $15k. You're just not going to get out what you put in. Now the flip side is, why buy a ski for $4000 and sink $2500 into aftermarket parts in it? Simple. Most people can't afford the initial investment of say $6000+ so they buy cheaper and go from there. I'm the same way. When I was younger, I couldn't afford certain things so I bought used and made it a project. As I've gotten older and the income has increased, I'm able to justify laying out more for an initial purchase vs. going the 'fixer upper route'. Again, it comes down to what is it worth to you when you're in the market to buy. To me, a ski just isn't worth $5k, $6k, etc. I can get just as much enjoyment out of my SN as I could get out of a more expensive ski.

I"ll try and add my 2 cents since I"m looking in to getting a SJ. MY options are basically buy new or try and find one used. I personally Would like to buy a new SJ and build it myself. I enjoy the build process alot, and it makes me proud to ride something I did. Not to mention you know exatly what happens to the ski everyday you own it. Right now I would most likley but like 2g down on a sj and use that 2 yr yamaha promotion and just pay it off in 2 years. Where if I buy a used one, I might find one in decent shape, but where I live its damn near impossible to find any stand up skis.. I'd most likley have to buy it with out seing it and have it shipped. I also would have to pay out 4-5g right away, instead of keeping it in the bank making money for me, or what not. Such is my deliema!

That is what I thought when I frist got into stadups. . Here is my story why I think the way I do. After riding a stand up and realising I wanted to freestyel. I finally talked myself into a new ski. I found a 2001 4800 it was only 3 months old. The guy bought it cound't figure out how to ride it and sold it for what he owed. Anyhow after a few mods here and there the common stuff I was thinking about pipe head and footholds and such. I was pokeing around and found a ski for 4500 lowered hood aluminum pole, ported motor, footholds, scupper... See where this is going ... this ski had it all. I decided to keep my ski which was a year old I could have easily sold it for 4000. So that winter I ordered a pipe $900 Head $300 Scupper, footholds, turf, underpadding, and a ton of other stuff. I went into the next summer 10 bizillion hours of labor later and a couple grand deeper into the ski that I decided to keep. So after a few years riding a ski that didn't really have enough power for what I wanted and I had a mint invested in it. I sold it this year for $4000. Added some money to it only $2000 which is less than the price of of the paint job on it. I now have a dream ski.

Custom paint
ADA 5mm stroker motor 850cc's
Lowered hood
AC pole
Full Spectrum carbs
X metal everything
Freestyle trim
Aftermarket everything.

And I took the ski all apart and put it back together one piece at a time after cleaning everything on it. I even waxed the engine compartment and the underside of the hood. There isn't a bolt that I havn't taken out and locktighted back in. It feels like MY SKI I have built it from scratch. It has no history to me. If I knew then what I know now I would have 5 years experience on a powerful freestyle ski instead of starting out this summer on one.

Now you can do what you need to but that is my story.

thats a great point aswell.. I'm looking into both. I would mind buying a used SJ I f I can find a good well taken care of clean one around me.

On aside note, what exactly does a scupper do, I know it lets water out, but wouldn't bilge work aswell?? Also wont it take on water unless your moving?
