You guys wrapping skis and handlepoles, what is the trick?

Does the type of squeegee used matter?
heat gun or blow dryer?
should you wet the vinyl with some water slightly tainted with soap?

Just tried doing a handlepole with 3m scotchprint and the first try was terrible. second try was a bit better but only really looked good on the front, once we made the turn to the backside of the pole it sucked.

Just trying to figure out what the trick is to making it look like a professional job. Trying to install this stuff makes turfing look like a cakewalk!!!

Its definitely a skill to do and takes patience. I used a spray bottle with soapy water and a bondo spreader. I used a blow dryer on low but not too much. It gets very pliable quick. And small sections at a time. I just did my hood and nose piece last season and it held up well. Its much easier with another person to help out.

i wrap and work with vinyl for a living. feel free to message me!

I'm not sure if you bought a premade 3m product or had it done at a shop, but im hoping for you that its air egressed (meaning it will be bubble free) and most of the scotchcal vinyl is control tack so if you place it you can pull it back off if you're having problems and it "shouldn't" mess up. if its not masked try and use a soft squeegee (or you will scratch) if it is then it wont matter. I've used a credit card in desperation doing an OSU trailer wrap off site.

You can do a wet install but having done both id go dry. Assuming the paint on your ski will hold up and that you've gotten some decent vinyl in your hand.

dont try and peel your vinyl and place it on. Not sure what you're strategy is but tape it in place, and center hinge it somewhere and do it in half's. (peel to your tape line and use scissors and cut the backing off to your tape line.)

Here's how it came out. And the spreader we tried. The spot that was really bad that I took a pic of I used too much heat gun and melted a little.

Usually the rule of thumb is that if the vinyl is too hot to handle then you've used to much heat. I've never used that type of material but it usually all works the same. The top looks good. I would round around the corner to the side all the way down the pole a little at a time and then do the flat sides. using little heat and if its wrinkling, gently pull it up and it "Should" heat out and retake its shape. then you just give it another shot.

In Daytona I was at the fast elements booth and saw a set of blue and a set of red carbon rrp pole tubes. I'm assuming they were vinyl wrapped? Anyone know a good place to buy blue carbon vinyl wrap?

Using a blow torch is the cool guy equivalent to using a heat gun. Its more convenient for us to take a heat gun then a torch and gas for it. But it comes down to the wrap guy

People that do it for a living make it look easy, definitely a talent IMO.

I like seeing time lapse videos of big wraps, amazing transformation. Nascar teams can do a whole car in around 2-3 hours.

Yeah its taken me time to get to the point I'm at in wrapping. I'm gonna do one on my octane when I get the time at work and can get around to designing something. I'm to picky on my own stuff

bruce make Lagano come over and help you guys. we helped in our friends vinyl shop for years. hes pretty good with vinyl and lives around the corner haha definitly want to warm the area you want to wrap and the vinyl not to hot just warm and like said above the wrinkles you can work out with a little heat. just what ever squeegie you use just make sure it doesnt have sharp edges bc it will cut or catch the vinyl when warm
