Not to mention they are two countries with horrible hygiene issues... especially regarding the practice of medicine. They also live on top of each other in many cases, so it should be no surprise.
I'm not saying to go gather in public with large groups and have no authority to say it's useless to stay at home, but there are a lot of other factors that fed the situation in Italy and China. It is dangerous and it is very contagious, but my OPINION is that we don't need to stay home in fear. I just got done jet skiing today and had a blast. Never got within 6 feet of anybody else.
I am no health care professional, but I am very involved in mathematics and know how epidemiological models work, and I read a lot about the statistical analysis used to calculate the rates of the virus transmission. From that it does appear to be unique in that it spreads easily. On the other hand, both my sisters and my father are in health care and are getting to ready to deal with this head on. That being said, I have never seen them worried about anything like this happening and they are taking it pretty seriously. However, I think there is fear mongering going on because there is no harm done from me walking my dogs if I don't run up to some random people and talk to them super close.
What I am doing: Live life, staying home from work if I can, and go for walks and drives with the people you live with anyways and don't just be a couch potato. Can't forget washing my hands a lot.
Again, I have no authority to tell people that's what they are to do, but that's my $.02 and my plan.
Almost forgot, lots of jet skiing and projects to come.
