Water in engine ?

Hi there,

Not sure if this is the right part of the forum.
This is the second post i make and i am new with riding on jetski's aswell.
Anyway what i tried to search for is water in the cylinders , is this normal or is there some broken part in the system.

What ive done last weekend is cutted the coolant tube/hose not sure whats the right word and made a T part in it so i could connect the water and run the ski on land.
I turned the faucet open and water started to come out of the exhaust and the head was cooling when the engine runned.
After this i cut of the engine and let the water run for a a bit to let it cool some more, i thought this would be good.
A little later i had turned off the water and 45 min after that i wanted to start the ski again but it didnt fire sometimes it did.
took out the sparkplugs and noticed water on them.
pushed the starter button and a big splash of water came out, luckily the gaskets were still in the blok i actually thought about later but this also let me discover a bigger problem that the piston was wrecked from 1 cilinder ( seems it happened a long time ago at the previous owner)

What i wanted to ask to you guys with some more expertise , is this normal or is the waterbox broken or something as i am not sure what this does except mixing the water with the exhaust fumes.
atleast thats what i assumed it does.

So please don't burn me to the ground right away since this is all new to me.
Btw its a Superjet 650 from i think 1994 it happend to.
Thanks

Vince

thanks for the fast reply, i actually need to change all of them since there made from some paper sort of materia andl there broken when i took off the parts.
I even have to replace the bearings of the crankshaft since the big end bearing seems to be on the end of life and it sounds not so smooth anymore when turning it in the block/carter.

^^ you made a mistake with flushing your ski. never have the water going through your engine without it running. This is how it should be done...start engine, then turn on water(2-3mins), now turn off water, rev engine 2-5 times to blow out the remaining water in exhaust, turn off engine. finished.
this is how i flush my ski after riding in salt water. we all learn from mistakes and i know iv had my fair share of them good luck with your superjet there fun skis

Thnx simofx,

i thought something in the water box would be broken and it filled up the cylinder because i let the water run.
But i found out what the waterbox does and if im correct its for sound dampening only but can get some advantage with a tuned engine and a different one with less restrictions.
Well still new in this, and already loving it hah, even after just 4 rides until it totally broke down but its actually good so i know how to and what to do if something is wrong.

Engine wise its not much different since ive worked in dirt bike / scooter repair shop for a while
But this is a mistake i won't make again ;)
