Water Spots!!!

I know I can't be the only one who is bothered by water spots. I have a 2014 SJ and it is obviously black. Every time I take it out, I always wash it a day or two after and wax it quite frequently as well. Still after every ride, I have water spots that won't come off without wax.

Has anyone found a certain wax that will keep water spots away? I currently use NXT and it looks great after a wax but it doesn't keep the spots away at all.

Wax does not remove waterspots. To remove waterspots, you'll want to use a polishing compound. And then use a high quality carnauba wax.

If you are really crazy about it, give your ski a "strip" wash to remove all existing wax, clay bar your ski, polish it, and then use some sort of sealant or coating. Then too that with wax.

I need recommendations on good products to use. I agree with the steps you listed as I have done a lot of detailing before. I was mainly wondering if a certain product helped with water spots.

I usually buy a lot of high end stuff through Autogeek.net. I really like the BlackFire Line up, and use them quite often. If you want to keep it cheaper, I am a big fan of Meguiars higher end stuff.

I would look at the meguiars ultimate compound, ultimate polish, and ultimate paste wax. As for a sealant/coating, not a lot of the lower end companies sell them as its a more specialize product. I really like the BlackFire crystal seal. Its not too expensive and works great!

FYI, you really wont be able to prevent waterspots, but with good products, you will keep them from bonding to the paint/gel and they will be very easy to remove with just a maintenance wash.

Yes, that's what I meant. I want them to be able to just come off with a maintenance wash after a day at the lake. Thanks for your input! I will take a look at BlackFire and Chemical Guys and see what I can come up with.

It only gets spots from the lake. I always dry it off completely after a wash. At the lake there's not much you can do hence my asking for a prevention of some sort.

My dad is a nazi when it comes to water spots on his mercury outboard (black) and for this he keeps a spray bottle with 1 cup rubbing alcohol, 2 cups water, and 1 tablespoon vinegar in his truck. Quick spray and wipe when it comes out of the water and it still looks like it's fresh off the showroom floor 3 years later.

Yeah just ridiculous to think I'd want to keep my brand new $8k ski looking nice. Who would do that...

No idea. My ski is worth twice that and I ride it. When I'm done riding I cover it. Then I ride it again. I honestly don't spend anytime looking at it, unless I am on it, and at that point it's soaking wet. Maybe if I made a coffee table out of it..........,.

See ive heard about using vinegar it just seems too harsh. The only ski I have with spots is my expensive ski. Ballzy to try it on that ski hah. Let me know what you find out works for your 2014. Looking to get mine looking good too besides get it buffed out and sealed

I have a few nice painted & bare fgel finished skis and just hose them off well after a day in the salt. Maybe once a month use some turtle car wash on them. Stay quite clean & the paint looks good still. Its the engine bay and pump where it gets clinical.
