Setting up a 1200 yamaha motor w/o waterbox right now. Can i just continue with my method of no waterbox? Is noise the only negative? what about cooling? Backfires? engine running away?

Wouldn't you get most back pressure from the manifold and exhaust pipe? And would i still need alot of tuning or any if i use a smaller waterbox then? thanks for the responses guys!

Where did you notice most of the lack of performance? Low speed or high speed or Both?

I can't believe no one has mentioned the number one reason why you need a waterbox: So you aren't that one asshole on the water that gives everyone else a terrible name and gets you kicked off the water.

I ride days when other people aren't there. I like when people aren't there to stick there nose in my business when i ride. You cant even do spins at the lake so I go when and where there aren't people. But like I said I don't care about the noise for myself, I already knew why not to and that is for jet skis getting in trouble. Thanks for the response tho

See i like the noise. Louder the better for me..from girls to mufflers, the louder the better hah. So just make sure the waterbox is stopping water from backing into motor pretty much right?

you dont need a waterbox unless your motor requires the back pressure, you ride where noise is a no no , or the boats you chase hate loud skis.

Yeah boats will hate and so will rangers. I was just wondering risks of testing it w/o box since i don't have one that fits right now, it will always be loud with at 1200, and im dieing to ride the boat. Just wanting to do research and make sure im not risking the motor's health.
