Barry, Thanks for the new options!!!!

I do allready own a tripod. The problem is putting it in my backpack while I'm riding and setting it up for the 5 minutes sessions that I record in between riding.

Tripods absolutely make better quality videos, however, I tend to miss a lot of shots with a tripod. (Unable to move as quickly from one ski to another) I know what will make the vids better, however, I am not willing to make those sacrifices.
I like being able to jump boat wakes and ride like a maniac with my camera in my backpack. Carrying a tripod would make my rides back and forth from the ramps boring and slow.. I enjoy ripping it!

Same with an expensive camera. I would have to ride like a sissy (fear of breaking it). I'm just a rider....who happens to video tape while I'm not riding. Note:My camera is sooo cheap it doesn't even have anti-shake. This makes the videos even MORE jumpy!

A little history... (I have been making videos since 1977) My dad had one of the first VHS video Cameras. It weighed approximately 75 pounds (literally). You had to carry a giant VCR with you and plug in a camera the size of an actual TV Camera. The battery by itself was the size and weight of a jetski battery. We used to make StarWars movies in the basement...

actually......
funny as it seems?

dj did have a nicer camera at one point and it was digital, vs his analog ebay specials now.

the pic quality on the cheaper cameras work out to be better
,
i know im sure there are other digital options that would have been better.
but the one time he did have a nicer camera
the pics were always washed out and just not as goood

when and if dj decides to answer his true calling in life, and make money doing this, im sure he will spring for a nice pro rig. but for now
for what we do
it suites the bill just fine. just to get an idea of what we are doing when we play

Let's cut DJ a little slack here. Comparing his stuff to Chris N. is just wrong. Chris has a HD video camera that costs like 100 times what DJ uses. Chris uses a tripod which helps a lot too.

A lot of the parts of the video it's not a perfect, clear sunny day. That kills the quality. There is no "make it a sunny day button" in video editing. If you start with crap it stays crap. The sunny scenes look much better than the the others.

He wants to record his friends having a good time. That way they can share it with their friends. Probably using stuff that would "end up on the cutting room floor" otherwise.

It's better to have this great action recorded at any quality than not at all. A lot of great action in Daytona last January and it's only in people's memories.

The thing with Zach Waddle lately. He was an up and coming rockstar in the surf. Every minute of him riding should be on video.

This type of video with all the water movement is the worst possible thing to make into an internet video. It's just the way video works.

DJ is putting these videos on my website. I just gave DJ some more options so he can do the videos in a smaller screen size which might look a little crisper and work better for those who don't have awesome internet connections.

The settings he is using for this video to try to make up for the limitations of web video require an awesome internet connection.

Video starts with good light bouncing off something and going through the lens to the sensor in the camera. Bad light, cheap lens and sensor on the cheap camcorder all multiply together to reduce quality. Not using a tripod makes it shaky. For not using a tripod and being zoomed out it's pretty good.

DJ,
Did I say tripod enough times for you to get the hint? They are like 25 bucks for a cheap one which is better than nothing.

Time to get off my soapbox and go out riding.
im just saying cameras are getting cheaper and cheaper, especially used ones. dont have to go crazy like chris but the point was the images are crisper and brighter and the video loads quick. after reposting with a higher quality i could tell it wasnt just the format, it was the cam. even my crappy helmetcam shoots an image imo is better, at least for internet use. just a suggestion, im not givin him a hard time and he knows it.
oh and tripods are small, will definetly fit in the bag.. and if you think a tripod will slow you down, get a monopod. even just having the monopod attached and not touching the ground will make the shot way steadier.

native format of the video has nothing to do with how fast we are able to load them
once it is converted to a digital format , it's digital, the compression format alone is responsible for that

it would be easier for him to import and work with with a digital shot
but would not effect the end users ability to load faster

Actually it is just as easy to load an analog shot into the computer...(takes about the same amount of time too!) I will make a really short video in 1/2 analog and 1/2 digital just to show that there really isn't any difference in internet vids.

On my DVD it is even hard to tell which shots are digital..(except for the widescreen). Anyway...fiveO your DVD should be there shortly...

Hey Korn,

I am still having problems viewing either version. even if I let it load completely it stops around 23 seconds. Is there anything I should check for to get to see the vid?

Thanks,

John

DJ, nice video! Thanks for coming to all the eastcoast rides and spending time to create these videos. Your a blast to ride with and do a much better job at taking video than most of us could ever dream about doing. Keep it up!

take care and congradulations

DJ, The vid is great. Dont sweat the quality thing. You are doing it out of your love for the sport and nothing else. The vid shows the soul of the ride and thats all that matters. Not codecs and shakiness. Some on these forums seem to miss the whole point why we do this. 6 days to turn around a edited clip while licking wounds, working, dealing with reality, etc. is a huge accomplishment. Perhaps it would be different if they were the ones riding in the vid. Keep that homebrew style coming, at least till somebody offers you monetary gain to do differently.

Thanks to everyone who acknowledges DJ efforts. It's a glamourless, thankless job and it should be done more often.

I get to try to catch Crab doing a BR for his 50th birthday on Sunday. Can't imagine not recording that. Even if it's only a 270 it's still good video.

nice vid DJ mine loaded fine right of the bat. Thanks for taking the time so we can daydream after the sun sets

I just got a new rca modem & I don't get any delay in playing the any vids now. the old modem it would pause like every 10-15 sec. The conection & page speed is much better also. We called & complained to the cable server & they came out & put in the new modem

I should send you the vid I have from daytona. I have like 3 tapes from my sony handycam. I have to get one of them back from my buddy as it was lost in his car but has been found. I think it has stunt bike mike attempting a backflip in the nut buster. Its not great footage as it was my first time using the cam but hey, this isnt the big screen

Anyway, thanks for taking vid & put'n it up

x2

I have said it before and I will say it again. Considering that DJ 1) Uses his own equipment funded on a school teacher's salary! 2) Uses his own time generally taking time out of his riding time, and his relaxing time after working with kids all day 3) Doesn't recieve a dime of money for any of it

These are awesome vids period! I don't see anyone else posting all the time up here almost a new vid every week comes from kidkorn films. Those "high-quality" vids get posted 1 or twice every couple months. I don't see any of the people complaining posting any of there own videos either. If you have a problem with the quality or whatever than go watch something else and complain later...

DJ-- You rock my world! When I am stuck out here in the GOM with 10 fts beating on the rig, you totally feed my addiction and keep me sane with your videos. I keep forgetting the JET Tards DVD at home but I just start one of your you-tube vids and come back a day a later and watch it. I could not be happier.

Well actually I would like to see the stuff shot from when we went out and you broke your pole! ????

Anyways keep the video coming awesome job and I can't wait to get back to C-Town and ride with you hopefully you won't break sheit and we can ride more!

And incidentally anyone dissatisified with DJ's video quality why don't you send him some money so that he can get all kinds of fancy video equipment and then he can do it full time and then maybe you won't beeooch so much!

nah you will prolly still beeooch
