Wet Suits...

Im just wondering what thickness wet suit I should bring with me. I get cold very easily and dont want to freeze for 3 days. Any Ideas.....

I have a RaceJohn 1m/3m with no sleeves, but I can get a top for it and I have a full 4m suit. Also can bring a tour coat. Will the 4m be enough....

I dont know how cold that water is....So some feedback from you's guys that have been there would be awesome.

yes 4mm will be enough...many guys use a 3/2mm.

Yeah the 4 is plenty.. I was too hot in a 5/4 on the coldest day there one year. I used a 3/2 last year and it was perfect. I bought a new 4/3 steamer for the surf slam this year that I'll probably use in Daytona as well. I always see a few guys in shorts and maybe a tour coat every year, you'll be fine!

bring them all... 4mm will be more than enough. Even 2 years ago when it was friggin cold as hell I was in a 3/2. The water is fine while you are riding, the air temp/wind is what makes or breaks you.

3/2 is good down to 58-60 degree water

4/3 is good down to 50 degree water

If you have issues with swimming in the suit then get the 3/2. I don't mind swimming in the 4/3 and I wear mine all year long. It also doubles as body protection for me since its thick. Pancakes don't hurt quite as much.

Imho, that's far too generic of a statement. Depends heavily on the particular wetsuit.

well when i was looking around at them last year thats the general temps they were rated to be worn comfortably down to on all the charts. It also depends on the person I guess. I know with a 3/2 in 50 degree water I am colder than I would be in a 4/3

a good 3/2 will outperform a bad/cheap 4/3 by a mile...

I'm a wuss when it comes to cold water & cold weather, and I am plenty comfortable in my 4/3 in water and air temps below 40 degrees.
A quality wetsuit will keep you warmer (and last longer!) than a much thicker cheap wetsuit.
And it'll be more flexible.

Im in a 4/3 body glove now. Had a 3/2 mormaii a few years back. Much more flexible but colder. I'm not so sure the fitment was right either. That is much more important than the brand anyway.

not sure. I think it was about 150 though. its a 1 piece. my 3.2 was a john suit. that makes a difference now that I think about it too.

As with most other things, you get what you pay for. If that was the regular price for the suit and not some crazy sale, then I'd consider $150 about bare minimum for an entry level "nice" suit.
I've had cheap (Slippery Matrix), somewhat decent (BodyGlove) and great (my current Ripcurl).
The extra money is worth every extra penny spent, imho.
I just wish I had bought "great" to begin with, because it would have been cheaper that way.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Matt E u sound like me aka wuss in the cold. It dosnt take much for me to get the shivers so full 4 it is.

One more quesiton though, any of you wear like 3mm or 2mm scuba type gloves, the skis Ill be on wont have pissers/hand warmers. I assumed my regular moto gloves Ill survive with.

Im not to worried about the mobility of the suit, I need to be able to move but like I said dont want to freeze. I do like the idea of extra cushion, I want to learn to flip, so Im sure a poor re-entry is in store a some point lol.

No fires.. propane heaters can save your ass on the bad days (big thanks to FPD)!

I wear the same gloves year round. No pissers either.

3/2mm just isn't enough for me, that Atlantic is mighty cold and has a whole bunch of ice bergs in it.

Speaking of wetsuits, I was wearing my top yesterday (the gulf was 73*F so I toughed it out without the bottoms) and after just a few minutes of riding I was getting major Popeye forearm syndrome. It got so bad that I couldn't hold on to the bars and had to rough it out for the rest of the day wetsuit free.
It's not all that tight when I first put it on, snug yes but not tight. I just can't seam to handle anything tight on my forearms but getting a wetsuit 2 sizes bigger would be a total waste as well.
Do the better wetsuits stretch more than these Jetpilot/ Slippery things ??
