Today I built 5 aluminum clip boards for work. 2 of them are standard size but 3 are 11x17 specific for Elec/Mech drawings and larger documents.

You know I’m all caught up when I have time for frivolous projects.

Sure, i could have purchased these but I had the aluminum on hand from another project and this helps me use it up, plus they want $40 each and I was able to custom build exactly what I want for $20.

I also fabbed up a 7” aluminum backsplash for my assembly bench. I never could locate the hardware to attach it so finished pics will have to wait till after I can stop in at Lowe’s.

Do those fit under the clip? I like them, cuz they don't roll, but even with my big ears, I can't tuck them under my hat.

Is the backsplash a separate piece? I just roll formed a drip edge, and used the brake to form a backsplash on some stainless for my buddies butcher table in his cabin. I was debating between one piece or two. Went with one, to not weld nor seal the backsplash.

They fit good under the cap and are usually free at most building supply stores. I haven't acquired a new one in almost 20 years and still have at least a dozen kicking around still.

I made the backsplash removable in case I ever put the table in the middle of the room. I welded 1/2" tubing on to it and then bolted it through the table with 1/2"x8" carriage bolts. The table top is 1/4" and the backsplash is only 1/8'.

I wish I had a break and shear. The place i buy my aluminum has one so when I plan my next project, I can get them to precut and bend as much as possible in advance. I think it's maxed out at 1/16" though.

I’ll betting your neighbors are excited about that, lol.

I used up a bunch more left over material out of my attic today. The only projects I'm allowing myself to do these days are ones that use things that are taking up space in storage. Use it or throw it out is my new moto.

- Single 2x4,
- Scraps of 1/2" PVC sheet,
- a box of 1 1/4" stainless screws,
- partial piece of closed cell foam.
- 12mm galvanized staples.
- 1/2" stainless eyehook
- Stainless Carabiner

Anyone wanna guess what it is?

Worked on “Turtle Island” V1.001 today.

We had some warmer days which brought the turtles back out to finally explore their new Island. We had a few of the smaller ones check it out but the bigger ones seemed to struggle with getting up on it. I couldn’t tell if their breastplate caught the edge or if their balance just didn't allow them to board.

The edge of the ramp is only half an inch below the surface and I think their body’s are not able to pivot on it correctly. It just stood them straight up anytime they tried to leverage their weight.

I had just enough material left to extend the ramps out by another 4” which places the edge of the ramps enough under the water that they should be able to get over the fulcrum.

I figure these types of projects are frivolous and so does my wife, but you should have seen how excited she, (we), got when the first turtle showed up right while we were having breakfast on the porch. It's amazing how just a few hours of time and some used scrap can bring such pleasure. :)

As usual, I have V2.0 in my head already so if this doesn’t work, my wife has already blessed another trip to Home Depot for a full sheet of 1/2” PVC Panel so I'm not working with scraps. The next version will be ramped on all 4 sides and extend even further into the water to guarantee that any turtle of any size can board.

Found this one upside down on a road I was driving on. A quick U-turn and I had it to safety seconds later. Damage to shell (as shown) indicated it had an interaction with a vehicle - thankfully, only apparent damage. Placed it beside pond rather than directly into water in case it was stunned as I didn't want it to drown. Welfare check 10 minutes later revealed turtle gone. Next time I hope it uses the pedestrian crossing.

Very good of you! We see them in traffic all the time around here so they not so smart.

We had discussed possibly starting to bring such rescues back to our pond but after this weekend, we are pretty sure we have a full family unit here in our pond and wouldn't want to throw it out of balance. We thoroughly enjoy watching them swim around and interact with each other.
