What is the best Rec Freestyle Carb Set up?

EightySeven550

Always just this close
Well good news, I finally got determined to get my SJ back up and running soon. B-Pipe on its way, Skat trak 10-17 Impeller, 64x Cases.

I am trying to decide on which carb set up to use. I would like some nice bottom end power. Looking for low maintenance though. Any Recommendations?

Thanks,
Andre

Blackjacks.

I don't see how it could get much better. I've seen how they perform on other people's skis and on my own. Just my vote :smlove2:

Why don't you elaborate a bit more on your motor... I don't see how anyone could make a serious carb recommendation without knowing some details. Start with cc's........:beerchug:

Start with a set of 96-up stock Superjet re-jetted 38mm's.
Then build a nice set set of aftermarket SBN mikuni 46mm's when you get more agressive with more bolt ons and a tuned package. Just skip 44mm's if buying new carbs, this way you won't run out of carb size too fast when upgrading the engine power and cc's, so not to have to buy carbs again.
46's work pretty well even on my pump fuel 93* 1000cc engines.

I've tried stock dual 38's, stock dual 44's, stock single 46, single Riva 48mm Powerbomb, 48mm Single and Dual Full Specs, and now dual 46 BlackJacks.

The BlackJacks are my favorite. Super clean and crisp.

Mat,come on now you like the 46 blackjacks better than a 48 full specs? elab please,I dint find the 46 BJ all that impressive

Yes, I like the 46 Black Jacks better than the 48 Full Specs. (Just because everyone on an internet forum says X is the best, doesn't make X the best)
Keep in mind that I have had my motor built by Jetworks, the company that makes the Black Jack carbs. The motor was built as a complete package, with those carbs. So of course it going to perform at its best with the components it was built for.

I think your boat has other tuning issues you need to sort out before you can make a judgment on carbs.
JMHO.

Ive talked with Art,he is a very knowledgeable guy,I just dont think he is using the same tech as Ed in carbs is all. I ran a power bomb 48 that smoked the BJ back to back on my ski just couldnt get it right up top with the riva. Will be runnin dual fs 48s next.
I know a motor package is built to work with certain combos, but as far as the aftermarket carbs goes, changing needles, seats, jets, popoff should make any good carb just as viable for any givin setup.
Have you run both sets of carbs back to back on this motor, this is another on of those times where a true dyno curve would be very helpfull. If it is done back to back at the ramp, this gives somewhat of a better comparison.compared to a dyno, still pathetic though

I'll go with what the builder of my motor recommends instead of testing it myself.
I want to ride, not test.
I paid the man good money to build me a powerful and reliable package precisely so I don't have to mess with it, and he delivered.

That's all I care about.
I understand that preferring any carb of the supposed holy grail of Full Specs is some sort of blasphemy around here, but I have only my personal riding experience to go by. And that experience says I prefer the Black Jacks.
Note that I am not dissing the Full Specs. I had them, and they performed very well.

And again, I don't think you're ready to start judging carb performance (on your setup) until you've sorted out the underlying issue causing your troubles. I do hope you get it figured out.
Speaking of back-to-back testing: have you tested Full Specs yet? :moon:

No offense with any of this. I speak of my own personal experiences, not yours. When I say I prefer Black Jacks over Full Specs, it is because I have actually tried both (and both were properly tuned!)

Why is there such a performance gain when going with dual vs. single carb s/u's? When u run duals is it a fuel supply or air supply benefit?

If masterblaster thinks that the powerbomb 48 mm smoked the smaller 46mm blackjack and that it is due to the carb being better he should realize that there can't be that much of a difference in airflow between the two carbs. The odds are that the jetting was closer to where it should be for that carb and that caused the perceived smoking feel. I am willing to bet there are some issues with his set up because there are guys running single blackjacks as well as powerbombs, novis, and full specs all with good results and nowhere near the issues that he is having.

Ive done lots of research on the pure engineering behind the carbs and Id say I'd pick a set of blackjacks anyday over a full spec. But thats me.

As for the original question. I definitely say find a set of mikuni 46s and be done with it.

full specs are they way to go.. ed is the most particular guy you will ever meet. and there is a reason why the pros use his carbs. here are mine.. best $$$ ever spent
