Doctors don't have time to ride.

Become a Nurse (RN) and work three 12 hours shifts, get paid for 40 hours and ride 4 days a week. (Plus you can live in any part of the country you want and always have work!)

I would say become a teacher, but your not going to afford a house by a lake, but after about 6 years of teaching, you'll have lots of time to ride after you get your masters degree.

Don't know how it is where you are but I just had a friend graduate from nursing school and TWO people from her class were able to find jobs....and she graduated with honors.

Health care is not the place to be right now.....

Even dental is dead now....

cool site, thanks :bigok:

yes, i plan on going to college.

being a civil engineer might be cool. some desk time and some time out at a construction site. seems kinda fun and i could probably get a job doing that just about anywhere. what do you think?

civil engineer is 98% desk time if you work for an engineering firm.

If you like the idea of that you should look into construction management. Civil engineers can do that but you can also do that job without an engineering degree. look into it, it's not available as a major everywhere.

Send them over this way. There's always tons of nurse openings here.

Doesn't matter what you do as long as you enjoy it you will never work a day in your life.

If you are looking for a job based on salary you are going into it the wrong way if you want to enjoy your life. IMO

depends on what kind! those who own their own practice are gonig to be tied up ALOT, not to mention ungodly malpractice costs

on the flip side of that..when you ARE the doc you may have the opportunity to call in and clear your schedule when the waves roll in....hell, people expect it on occaision..

this is exactly what I did for tomorrow afternoon :bigok::laugh2:

Engineering is definitely a good choice. As an aspiring Civil Engineer working at a large firm, it doesn't have to be all desk depending on what company/dicipline. For example, the company I work for does mostly ports and harbor design/redevelopment. We have Engineer divers that scuba all over the world. As a matter of fact we just sent a large crew to Hawaii last week, some in seattle this week, and a few months ago they were diving in Guam. If you work in a smaller private land development company, you're more likely to be out of work right now and also condemned to your desk. PM me if you want more info, or want to check out the type of projects we do.

Agree ...except for the house part.

One reason a lot of my friends are broke all the time is because they thought they HAD to buy a house to be a big boy.....DO NOT buy a house because you think it is the next step.

I'm not sure why people tell others to buy a house ASAP. They're normally the same people that tell you to pop out as many kids as you can as fast as you can. :ugh:

Idk what region of the country your from but im on LI an dentistry is booming. An im not just saying this becuase im a dental student. I have worked in multiple offices an they all do very well. As for medicine, it will never become socialized. To many medical companies will go down the tubes an it will hurt the economy more than help it. An although foreign health care is free its also terrible; thats why many people come to the states when in need of serious medical attention. For example in canada if you need to have ur appendix removed they will literally wait until it has bursted...Great health care system hu?

hasnt the construction industy been kicked in the balls along with alot of other jobs in this ressecion?
I work for a construction company. Not too big, not too small. About $100 million per year in volume. We're set up for a killer year this year. Last year was our biggest ever at like $140 mil. We probably won't beat that but it's possible at this point.

Alabama.....and believe it or not...we aren't getting hit as bad as other places as far as the economy. I was a dental hygienist and people were still not coming in even if they had insurance.

I worked for several offices at once and only one was still going strong.

Amen. Stay away from land development. Your basically a permiteer. You'll be chained to a desk or cad station. It's degrading to go through school and be doing simple elementary BS. Surveying is another one that can be good so long as your not doing title surveys or work for a land development company. I would only see daylight on the weekends and lunch in winter at the place I used to work at needless to say I quit.
