3 years ago today we lost a member of our community. I can't look at rough waters and not think back to that day. For those of us that know what happened let us take a moment to honor his memory by reflecting back on what happened that day, learn from the past, and continue to move forward.

If you are unfamiliar with Bruins (maybe a new member on the site), I encourage you to read this thread. Our sport is dangerous and it only takes a split second for something to go wrong.

RIP Bruins, you are not forgotten.

RIP Kevin, this was a hard hitting story for me a few years ago knowing that Kevin was a Father and a Husband, very sad situation for all involved!

I read through this post and it's sad.
For the family and friends involved.
As for the guys that last saw him. Really sorry you had to endure so many what should I have done or did I do the right thing.
I will tell you a little story of something that happen to me way back in the day.
Some of you may or may not know but I was a freestyler and a racer, competing on national tour.
Back in 550 days I was out in San Diego on a over head day. Keep in mind this was a 550 limited freestyle boat.
I was just playing around and decided to double a wave, came up short I hit so hard the ski completely delaminated at the bond line all the way around hood exploded I broke 4 rib ends and broke my nose on homeless pole with bell Moto 3 helmet. Luckily the hood stayed over top of engine and I was able to stay moving and rode straight to shore holding ski together with my body laying on handle pole. Rode ski to shore but I was not able to get off the ski and had not been for my brother to get help to remove me I would have drown on shore as I physically could not as much as raise an arm over the ski. To this day I have no idea how I could impact so hard at maybe 30mph.
But the sound of the impact stays with me today and every door slam reminds me of that day.
We will never know what goes wrong in so many cases. All we can do is be close enough to our friends to lift them up when it happens.
I'm lucky, I got to shore, but I don't think I could have read this post had my boat sank and left me in the water I'm quite sure I wouldn't have made it home alive.
Power sports are a risk we take everytime we go out.
We can't place a what if or a blame in many cases.
We can just learn and try to improve from our misfortunes.
RIP.

As I was getting in to freeride and wave riding kevin's story took place. I will never forget. One must understand the great lakes before you go out in it's waves. I mean no offense to you ocean folk, but the swells and breaks we can get are nothing to dick with. what we call clean waves is what they stay home for. This changed the way I view safety. If I ride with you we go out and back in together unless specified verbally. It doesn't always happen. It pisses me the f*** off. Yes, sometimes I'm late. But I also tow an ass home every chance I get. Always remember that it's you and your crew for the day vs a gale warning (for us great lakes riders)

It has been 4 years since Kevin and I headed out to play with Mother Nature, it has been 4 years since he was called home. It's time once again to put this thread back to the top to remind us how dangerous our sport can be. If you are a new member to this site, I encourage you to read this thread.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it"

RIP Bruins.

would love to share this video on facebook, has his family seen this wonderful tribute

I was wondering the same thing. I do not know them other than from this event.

Every year on that day I watch the video that only myself and his family has seen (doesn't show anything but how big/rough the waters were). I watch it to remind myself that there should have been two of us that day! Still to this day I sometimes can't believe that it happened.
