Super Jet What should i do?

My 2013 Sj has cracks all over the gelcoat. everytime i go out i get a new one. Its like the paint didnt cure properly when it was at the factory or something. It has less than 50 hours on it and its only ridden on lakes so its not like im launching it off of 10 foot waves causing added stress. Im pretty pissed off about it. When i bought it, I knew it didnt have any sort of warrantee for it since it was rated for closed course racing only, but i feel like in a situation like this i should contact yamaha and see what they'll do for me. what do you guys think? Do you think I'll just be wasting my time contacting them? what would you say? this cant be a normal thing.

i beat the $hit out of my sj and the stock gel-coat is holding up great. I would like to see some pictures...I have no clue if yamaha would help you out.

it's not a waste of time to ask... if you ask, they might work with you, if you don't ask there's not even a chance... what's the worst that will happen if you ask? they say no... what's the best thing that will happen if you don't ask? basically my point is... there's a chance, but only if you ask....

These cracks are visibly noticeable from 10 feet away but it was almost impossible to get them to show up in the pictures with the lighting i had. the first 4 pics were taken at 3" intervals. the cracks are on the bond line around the top side of the top deck and stretch about 18". the other cracks are where the top deck meets the hood. crappy pics i know. I'll have better ones to send to yamaha.

Write a letter to Yamaha and contact the dealer you got it from. Worst they can say is no. Just don't get your hopes up.

Never buffed and only cleaned with water and microfiber hand pads. I wax it after every ride with mcguires black wax but i do it by hand, not with any buffers. I've tried to take extremely good care of it since its one of the most expensive things i've ever purchased. Its a shame that it looks like crap now.

It shouldn't look like that. Your dealer should be able to send pics to a rep and get something done about it. I would stress that I'm worried about a possible safety issue. What if it starts flaking off leaving sharp edges that could injure someone. "We" don't want a lawsuit on our hands.

I have absolutely abused my 2013. Hundreds of hard flat lands (both right side up and upside and everything in between) in everything from large boat wakes to 8 foot surf, including many times tumbling onto the beach in the surf. My ski has two stress cracks by the hood seal and one on the hood but nothing like yours.

Just called my dealer. They're closed so I emailed them and explained the issues. Hopefully they get back to me asap. I'll keep you guys updated. In the event that nothing can be done, whats the ballpark cost on a quality shop re-painting it (gelcoat) and is it something i should do or just ride the thing till it looks like a cracked hardboiled egg?

You already have the ball rolling...wait to see what the shop says and if they will help with the yami rep. Why waste your own money if they can help you. I'm sure it annoys you too look at it as it sits now. But give them a chance to get back to you. If your shop can't do anything...then try and find out who the rep is in your area.

That sucks. Hopefully you get it fixed. Though eventually the hood paint will fall off anyways and look worse than this. I guess it will look nice till then.

dealership still hasn't gotten back to me. Their voicemail isn't set up, I cant get through to anyone, and they aren't responding to emails. I have sent two now. How do I find out who the Denver area Yamaha rep is? I tried google to no avail.

When you do get in touch with a Yamaha rep, I would nicely explain you got no response from your dealer. That is unacceptable. Just be professional in your emails and avoid being confrontational. You will be surprised how far you will get with this.

I will tell you, from working at a dealer. It matters who calls, how much money the spend and so on and so forth, I know that's wrong, but it happens. I've worked in 2 dealerships that were Yamaha dealers. It was crazy the things one dealer got covered versus another dealer JUST because Yamaha liked them. So if this dealer can't get anything done, don't give up. Try another one. Just something to think about, good luck

Thanks for the support guys. The dealer finally got back to me and asked me to bring it down. Im going to take it in tomorrow or the next day depending on whether or not I get called in to work tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.
