There you go - A Kawi rider suggesting the SJ is the way to go. I rode Kawi 650sx for a few years and have ridden an SXR. Switched over to new 07 SJ - its totally different and ya not nearly as 'easy' to ride as a SXR. As a SJ rider - if you just want outa the box and you don't plan on any mods - then I'd say go with the SXR for ease of ride/stability. BUT if you think you might like to do something to it in the future go with SJ - Like everyone says - forget about the dealership. My buddy owns a Yamaha dealership here and I don't buy parts from him at cost plus 5%:shhh:.
Ok I ride an SXR and I'm saying to get a SJ for the style of riding you are looking for. You will nedd the same cost parts for a SJ and SXR, but a impeller for the SJ, that is the only difference. Dealer smealer, who cares. If you are going to ride hard, you will learn how to work on it, and the X will show you how and where to get the parts and at a much better price than a dealer. I know I bought mine new at a dealer, for the same reasons you are talking about.
