Freestyle What should my next mod be?

I just bought a 97 SJ with the following mods:

Factory B Formula 4 pipe (water injection currently not installed, is it needed?)
RIUS Racing head and dome
Riva intake, reed spacer, MSD plug wires
Dual 48mm Novi Maxi-flow Carbs w/billet connector and throttle wheel
Defoamed and Reinforced/sealed hull with 2 ply 17oz Biax
Wamilton 3" scupper, 500gph bilge
Wamilton Rickter footholds with all new turf
Custom carbon rideplate, RIUS intake grate
R&D G-force sponsons
Pro-tec drop nozzle trim (needs to be flipped to up, cable is too big for piping though)

Any suggestions? I mostly ride in the surf/rec no flatwater really (ski is too heavy!). I want to flip the trim, but the pipe that the cable goes in is too small, its a heavy duty cable so maybe I can get a thinner one. Should I install the water injection? Would rather have a factory B pipe but theyre $$ and I don't see much gains over the formula 4 pipe to be worth it. I think the stock pole was shortened 2" but I am considering getting a whole new one with a better bracket.

Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Lightweight coupler is a rather cheap mod, mag pump but that is pretty big $. I'd just run it as is though and save $ for when stuff breaks and upgrade it one piece at a time that way. That's what I did with my pole, nose piece, hood, hell the whole hull for that matter!

Like others said ride it for a summer then go from there next winter. Contain your initial impulses to keep up with the Jones' and doing whatever flavor of the month mod is big at the moment.

A lot of people here can say what they'd do to the ski you have (bpipe, tubbies, diff footholds, bigger motor) but it all comes down to your needs and budget. At least stick with the budget mods or a neccesity item or two.

If you make the trek between OCNJ & OCMD this summer you'll meet plenty of people to ride with and a wide range of skis/mods to get a feel for what's suited best for you.

Congrats on the ski and good luck.

Yeah, I am definitely riding it as is. I just like to look for my next mod and wait for the right deal etc. I want to get a few mods over the summer etc as I find deals and install them in the off season, just trying to decide what to keep, sell or get. I know the sponsons are more for racing, the carbs and pipe are probably geared more towards racing as well and I am not sure about the ride plate. Thanks for all the replies, can't wait for this season!

You need to find out what rpm its turning and the prop/nozzle specs. There could be some thrust left on the table if the pump loading is too high.

I think everyone here is right on try to ride a bunch of skis to find out what you like/ dont like. The limiting rope is a great idea! Poles are expensive. I loved my #0 sponsons for freestyle. I think it made a world of difference in handling in less than glass conditions. An impeller can make a huge difference in a converted race ski. I really liked my hooker till I upgraded to a setback mag pump.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions everyone. Sorry I am not getting back to this thread sooner, thought I was supposed to get email notifications. Anyway I will definitely put on a limiting rope and hood straps before heading out into the surf (if not sooner). Where should I get them? Most places want almost $90 shipped for both (blowsion, thrust etc) but I am looking at freerideinnovations on ebay, seems like I could save about $30 that way, every little bit helps. Anyone order from them?
I have been looking at aftermarket poles, I love the look of the 2 tubes but the whole setup is over a grand! Definitely doesn't seem worth it? Especially since the stock pole is lighter? But I do also like the look of that lower nose piece for a more sleak look. What about the hood? A lowered hood is almost a grand too, worth it? Seems like it'd be a lot less weight, but ok with a stock pole? I think my pole was shortened 2".

Another thing is I want to setup my protec drop trim to trim up. I looked up how to flip it, still a little confused, I guess I'd have to look at my nozzle to get a better idea. I know that I can only trim up about 10-15 degrees unless I do some welding? Anyone local ever do this before?

Thanks for all the help everyone, I am trying to take the ski out soon when my wetsuit gets here for a first ride!

Also I have no idea what prop or the pitch, guess I will have to try and get in there and look at it, see if its marked. What should I be running?

For the lowered hood and nose piece there is always something used and here for alot cheaper, and I would suggest getting a jetmaniac ratchet strap for ur hood and it's really easy to make a homemade limiting rope, maybe 10$ at the hardware store I'll never buy a real one!

Yeah, I will have to put up a WTB add for the hood and nose piece, I think I will pass on the pole, aftermarket ones don't seem to be worth the money. I will have to look into the jetmaniac ratchet strap, does he sell them somewhere? Yeah I think the limiting pole rope would be easy to make, same with the straps too. Thanks.

PM jetmaniac on here... he does not have a storefront yet. He is super reliable and cheap.
