Dan, you should have rode my ski with Tubbie II's... Also I really like cutting the lip on the rear bond line. It lets the back end sink (bringing the nose up) plus you can rail the ski better.

Thanks Gordie!
There are quite a few tubbies to choose from out there. I found it interesting that the overwhelming recommendation was Destroyers. Be it flat water or surf. Yes, they cost a bit more....

NP whatsoever. Glad it's helping out. After seeing how 227's customs work, and understanding the width from front to
back, the destroyers just make sense to me. Especially for surf. Jack away bro! We're good.

I bought a 2000 Superjet with Blowsion tubbies not the Destroyer, the Carving is very nice but on flat water the ski is moving side to side its a very bad feeling,

Funny part about this thread Jay is that when you started it you had no idea that you have a Superfreak on the way right now. Forget about the Silly tubbies and that SJ design from the mid nineties.

Movin on up...........(jeffersons song).

Yeah I never seen it before, but if you go down 8 post to the one by mark gomez he did some on his 550! I thought maybe they were pretty popular.

Those looked nice! I don't know much about 550's, but there have been a few guys make their own tubbies for superjets. One that stands out is John Howe. He posts up as 227 here on the X. It'd be a time consuming effort, but is totally doable and worth it.

I'll tell the very short version of my story and hope it will help you out a bit. Ultimately I wanted an aftermarket hull, but had a hard time paying for one. So I tried my best to make my RN into one. If I had to do it all over again I would. I learned a LOT about fabrication and glassing, foam, what the changes would do to the ride. But holy crap it was a lot of work. But to back up, I wanted an aftermarket hull, and I ordered one, because I can only do so much to a RN hull. If you love tinkering, fabbing and want to do the most you can with your 550, go for it. But if you are trying to turn it into another ski, you may run into limitations and be better off just going to that ski.

I just like the 550's I want to build a 550/650 conversion ski after I get my x2 done. Its going to be really vintage looking!
