Depends on the intended use. IMHO, there is absolutely nothing wrong with an SBT motor for recreational use.
Yeah, their case halves probably are not matching - but I've never seen that to be a problem in their motors and I've installed a few.
And I really don't know how an SBT rebuilt cylinder could be
tier in any way than a "regular" used cylinder. They don't take ported or decked cylinders and if the sleeves are bad, they get replaced.
I've personally installed SBT motors in Seadoos, Kawis, Yamaha's, and Polaris' over the past five years. Not a single one came back to me.
I wouldn't use an SBT motor as the base for a performance build, sure. But for recreational use, the ease and affordability of an SBT shortblock is pretty tough to beat.
PS: And if it does blow, you have a 1 year no-fault warranty.
