What's the value of this engine?

my buddy scored this engine from a lady whose husband died. I don't know much about it other than that it is a PJS with a factory pipe. I was hoping you guys could tell me what you think it's worth or even let me know what info you have on it.IMG_7395.JPGIMG_7396.JPG

yea, that factory pipe is very rare and desirable along with the rest of that rare and desirable stuff. if it was me, i'd rip that thing in a million pieces and sell everything separate. you would get way more money that way. that's a T3 cyl and for that top end i'd get $500 without the head if it was still good. another $200 for the head, $150 for the ex manifold, 500$ for the headpipe and chamber. intake manifold alone is $150 and maybe $300 with carbs and reeds. if the crank is good, maybe $200 and cases a few bucks if the crank and cases are PJS. my pricing might be a little high but i'd throw it on ebay and let it sit there for years if necessary to get my asking prices. somebody on this planet will pay top dollar for that junk, but it sometimes takes years for them to find your junk for sale.

So far there has been an offer of 1k assuming the compression is good. My buddy is going back for a box of parts including the flywheel. He'll grab the compression this weekend.

In this day and age of big motors and light hulls, it's not really something that will surprise you or catch you off guard. Will it blow the doors off of a stock 550? Sure, but a ported 61x will put it to shame.

A mid 2000's stock mustang would blow the doors off a v8 Pinto too, but which one would you rather drive for a day. :)

You mean, if my buddy had a V8 on the stand and had to assemble a Pinto to put it in? Can't exactly throw that engine on the trailer and go ride it.

Nice find. I have my UPS and FedEx guys looking for old stand ups and x2s while out on their routes but all they come back with is junk. Hoping one day to score something good.

That's funny, there was a guy came to my house one time delivering furniture of some kind. The two delivery guys saw one of my 550's dropped the furniture and went "NO WAY! I haven't seen one of these in years!" Wish I was there to witness it

Touche! But seems a waste to let something as rare as that engine and pipe go through your hands and not try it. Most likely never see another one.
Same thing happened to me.
I scored a 550 in a package deal with a west coast rc520 motor and was just going to sell it.
Tried it out and holy crap!!! Thing was a rocket and scared the $h** out of everyone that rode it.
It would be a shame to part it out. If you really want to sell it there will be way more interest on pwct.
