Custom/Hybrid what's with all the new hullbuilder hate?

MattE is on point for sure.

What is even worse is the behind the scene private messages, emails, and texts that go on from qualified builders to other builders and/or their 'possible new' clients and spew negativities about their possible new purchase

and btw idok, society ruined society's manners :)

I think questioning new builders is good. Too many people thinks is easy to whip out a new hull and have no real experience. riding or building or both.

It is easy to whip out a new hull, fortunately for them the consumer doesnt know very much. Important technical questions arent being asked and when they are, they never get an answer. Builders think they have an edge with secrets to protect and consumers buy into that crap. What we end up with is a lot of AM radio style politics.

Not in reference to direction, only tactics. Example; get angry at someone
(really angry), crap in your hand, and throw it at him.

^^^ i dont get how that relates to AM radio, but I don't listen to AM radio either so....

Also what are the questions that arn't being asked/ answered?
Very intrigued by this, and with all the people reading it, maybe it will help potential buyers...

Forget AM radio, I just thought it sounded familiar. As far as questions, I want to know construction method, materials, and weight. I want to know the plan form dimension so I can choose one that fits me and my intended riding conditions. Handling wise, does it have a lot of grip or does it slide easily? A test ride can quickly answer these questions. I cant fly all over the country to sample the cuisine and Im certainly not going to drop $4000+ without being reasonably sure of what Im getting. I need more than a slick carbon finish and a vid of someone doing a flip.

I understand where the excitement of making a hull come from, it's original it has your name on it, and everyone should love it! Much like how the idea of owning a bar in college seemed like the best thing ever. Everyone would think you're awesome, you'd never have closin time and life would be grand.

But just like the bar idea, and impulse buying a cheap hull, don't expect the cream of the crop if no one knows anything about it and especially if you don't know anything about it!

Two cents,

Here's an idea for an upcoming hull builder....catamaran style! Haha

People put a lot of time into knowing what laminate they are using and what works for them ..I'm not going to go telling everyone what carbon im using and how I use it ...but as a builder you should stand behind it really being carbon if you say it's carbon ...it should weight 45 pounds if u say its 45 pounds (give or take a couple )and it should last 5 years if you say it will..people are not gonna trust me overnight ... And I may not be the best right now ...but what I can tell you as a builder I live sleep drink and eat composites and jet skis right now and not going anywhere for a while and will be here to stand behind my product and only get better !!!!

Gotcha...

I did the flying thing, to Daytona though. Cause all the cuisine was more or less in one spot. I get what you're saying though, and I believe your background in composites allows you to understand the importance in the answers to those questions. I imagine the rest of us arn't quite as savvy, which is why I asked.

FWIW, the hull I decided on rode very much like the ride reports explained on this site. I was going to buy blindly, but a good friend encouraged me to go ride it first, make sure its what I want. And he was right, I don't regret it one bit. The way I see it, if you're ready to spend $4-5k (which, lets be real, is going to be $5-6k because of all the little parts you'll need) on a specific hull, why not spend 10% of that, hop on plane, meet the builder face to face, and go ride it. Sorry, kinda got on a tangent there... But hopefully this helps people who are considering buying a hull.

The problem with this is .......... most people save the money for the hull first, and the r&d trip money last. Obvious dilema ensues..

FWIW, I ordered a Trinity -2 EVO and I haven't lost a seconds sleep about it. I'm tickled pink actually.

Sooner than you think, there will be no such thing as a "new" stock hull.... it makes no economic sense for Yamaha, Kawasaki or any other ..... well, I guess there are no others... to continue to manufacture stand-up ski's that need 2-stroke motors. That is truly a shame.Makers of hulls and motors will fill the void left by the big names driven out by the small market and environmental concerns and regulations.Lots of new ideas, good and bad, will be out there. Have been out there.Unfortunately, without mass production, prices will remain high compared to Yama/Kawi. This will make the market even smaller.Jus' da fax!I believe that the days of mass production are gone.
TANGENT: This worries me a lot in the future. We will start to see the decline of cheap entry level skis (most of us started on SN's, 650s etc). The sport is currently growing and seeing an influx of new riders, but having to buy a $5-10k ski right off the bat is going to keep people from ever starting.Hell living in New Zealand now I see how bad it is, I need a spare 550 tank, these would be free in the US and probably come with an entire extra jetski :laugh2: , but it's gonna cost big money here.
