Practice is what it takes. I suggest starting on something you don't mind it if gets "messed" up. Lawn mower hood is good. What kind of buffer did you get? Is it orbital or traditional buffer.

Go slow and use good compound and clean pads. Number 7 meguires is a great compound to start with. It's a very light cut and won't just burn through the paint. Some of the stuff I use on really bad vehicles is similar to 400-600 grit sand paper at 3000 Rpms. If you aren't careful you'll be seeing primer fast.

If you can squirt wax out of a bottle it won't last after the first or second rain. Don't skimp on product it makes all the difference.

Use those in reverse order I have them sitting. Start with 3m then glaze then wax. Wash after step one with regular blue dawn dish soap.

The 3m product is like a 2000 grit wet sanding

I don't remember what I used, but I know it was a paste and a cheap orbital buffer to do this boat that sat out in the sun with no shrink wrap for 8 years. The guy at the boat store said all the local guys who do this work swear by the stuff. It was fairly cheap @ $16-20 for the container. I think I needed 1.5 containers to finish that 23 foot boat.

This was the same as Bruce sat outside in the sun and was a faded turd before I started. Took me a week to get it in this shape.
