You should do it, this guy is a pretty good pal.

My roommate has a cat and he is pretty chill little fella...he sleeps in the sink when I am getting ready for work in the morning.

Sorry for the threadjack...what are peeps looking at today?!

My wife works at a hanger for a private charter company and they service those planes your are building there. It's always surprising to me how CLEAN the airplane hanger is when I go there. Not even a speckle of oil on the white shiny floor. I wish I could keep my garage like that :/

I look like everyone else except I have 3 monitors.

theres not a person in the picture to put this into perspective, but the plane here is on jacks. a 6'0 person could walk directly through the center of the belly with a couple inches between their head and the plane. this is a big bitch. its still technically the "largest" plane, because it still has the largest load capacity and the largest hydraulic system. and this, is a cute little c-130 about to be loaded inside of one.

Those big boys are behemoths. We had to drive past the airport everyday to school when we lived in Kuwait and any given day there were 3 of those things on the cargo ramp. Then one day the new anatov came into town and it was the wingspan that made it seem days bigger than that guy.

They are starting to mothball the C5s out here in the desert...You can see the tails from the Boneyard a couple miles off. They are a trip to watch take off.

I saw a pretty awesome documentary last year about retrofitting those. Is that what is going on there?

we do PDM. its a tear down and rebuild. the ones you see are the A models. the EARLY ones from the late 60's and 70's. the B models are usually 80's models. the C model (there are only 2) are the planes nasa uses to carry the shuttles (they do not have a rear troop area upstairs). the M models are updated B models which we also do. the control panels are updated in the cockpit (looks like a bunch of Ipads vs. round gauges) and new GE engines. its looking as if theyll be sending all but the M models to the boneyard soon. I was just put on a draft list to go work on C-130's, so ill be working on gunships in a couple months.

So much craziness in this thread didnt realize how many people are stuck at a desk all day. I would go crazy. Corporate structures would hamper me too. We go out back and shoot stuff at lunch or make muriatic acid bombs when it gets slow and put them in groundhog holes at the shop but it cool to see what other people do all day long.

I am a desk jockey most days. But born in a machine shop and metal shop. I don't have any pics of our manufacturing floor but I do work there to. It's rare, but we are a small family business. So when someone needs a hand we all step up to get the job done. It's a team effort every time and we are a close right family there. We shoot build guns in the office and have a few bows and cross bows around the office we play with from time to time. I'm with you. I can't do the corporate job. Tried it and hated every second. Other then meeting my wife. They could care less about the employes and it was all bottom line profit and cost. My bosses attend my wedding and gave us way to much to. I wouldn't trade my job for anyone that I know off out there now. I could move, work for a bigger place and make more money. But I enjoy my work my job and all th people I work with. To me that means as much as salary and is something to not over look when choosing a career.

I do work for a corporation but we are very small less than 200 employees in 5 countries now. My job is great a have relative creative freedom, don't pay for benefits, and I work with a lot of great people so it makes it way easy to sit behind the desk all day. I don't make near what some of my graphic design friends make, but they all hate their jobs so I am fortunate in that respect.

Glad you enjoy what you do for a living! Too many people don't and that is no way to go through life!

We have 12 employees and with good fortune of automation and a lot of hard work programming we do millions a year. With mainly one customer.
With our custom programming and automation I'm able to keep 8 nc machines spindles running almost non stop 8 hours a day and 2 cmm's I'm the only design engineer on staff that isn't the owner and he only helps out when I really get overloaded. 1 design to my 20 most cases
