I’m a Toyota guy but I have always wanted a Nissan Desert Runner from the 90’s. Haven’t seen one in 30+ years. IMG_1488.jpeg

What did you not like about GMC’s? Still own a Tacoma but my DD is a 18 Silverado. From what I can gather the transmissions are the weak link.
Cheap sounding exhaust (the second one we leased actually broke internally at 3000 miles...catalytic converter maybe...I don't know and didn't care to figure it out because it wasn't mine)....odd hard shifts and mis shifts....rides a lot rougher than it should as soon as it hits 30k miles. We have had 2 with 3 year leases. I love the way they look and I think they are pretty snappy because of the 8 speed tranny but I am 100% positive they will not hold up much past 150k and for sure not 200 to 300k over 20+ years. Cheap interior parts too. They are very nice to lease for 3 years.....about the best thing I can say about them. If they would have left room for a lot more sidewall on the tires I think they would ride nicer. It seems some manufacturers just don't understand the basics anymore.

I’ve got a 2018 Silverado 5.3/6L80

DOD/AFM and torque converter should both be changed out. Factory DOD lifters will fail
Along with converter which will wipe out pump and tranny.

Also if you have 6L80 transmission change the thermostat for tranny out to the updated Chevy TSB part number. They sent these things out running a 215* tranny thermostat from the factory. Updated one is 168*.

Mine has BTR stage 2 cam, DOD delete, long tubes and a higher stall torque converter. I also added a Mishimoto trans cooler which keeps it running no more than 145* on a hot day in traffic riding the high stall to accelerate.

It does sound like a potato chip inside compared to my Toyota stuff. Cheaply built. Everything in the cab squeaks or rattles since I got the truck at 28K miles. My exhaust is loud enough to not care, but I can tell the difference between my sequoia and my old tundra for sure. Much higher quality vehicles than the Chevy/gmc stuff.

Great looking truck! I just bought a tru-cool trans cooler for mine but was sent a knock off.. Going to look into that Mishimoto. I have a 2012 with the 6.2. Trans went out at 205k.

Great looking truck!

Mine is just a 4.3 and had the DOD/AFM turned off around 15k miles. Hopefully I’ll have no issues.

Did notice the transmission does run very hot so I need to look into the TSB and trans cooler so thanks for the heads up on that.

There’s a delay when shifting into drive and reverse which I had to just get used to. It’s definitely aggravating.

I just scooped a 6.2 short block a month ago with ARP main hardware, bought some lower compression forged pistons and rods and dropped to the machinist. Going to build for boost down the road. I’d highly recommend the Mishimoto for $450 or so. It’s a direct bolt in for our trucks and install was simple.

What caused the failure on that one?! I curently have 217k miles. When I took it to GMC to get the trans programed he told me the 6.2's last forever. (mine is pre AFM)

Had a radical cam in it, lots of boost. I’d presume springs failed and dropped a valve.

Pre AFM 6.2 is good! Don’t have to deal with the issues I fixed preventatively on mine.
