Long story alert.
So... today I had hoped to either A. Go to the Goodguys Car Show or B. Go riding for the first time this year.
The weather has been cloudy/ rainy for days, and was forecasted to continue to be cloudy and rainy today.
My wife said my mother in law needed help getting her lawn mower to start, so I pack up some tools and the whole family goes to Mom-in-laws house. Its cloudy and rainy... why not right?
Little back story...
My father in law had a stroke years before I met my wife, he has to use a walker etc and he heavily relies on Mom-in-law to live. Recently he was diagnosed with a heart condition for which there is no treatment. So they're going to tons of doctors etc. Mom-in-law recently took a job to help pay bills etc... so she's busy. And to add on to all that, grandmother in law lives with them. She's 90-something and a occasionally cranky. Its a whole situation over there.
So I get over there, fix the mower in a jiffy (stupid ethanol gas...) and start looking at the yard. Its a disaster. She has almost more weeds than flowers in the flower beds... and the yard isn't in great shape either.
I figured i'm already here, might as well do what I can to help. So I get the keys to her minivan and go pick up 20 bags of mulch and a bag of weed and feed. I weed all the flower beds and my wife helps me put down the mulch. Put down the weed and feed while the wife makes another mulch run.
Of course the sun comes out and bakes all the water out of the soil. Christ it was humid. It was "Houston in August" humid. We ended up putting down 50 bags of mulch in the front flowerbeds alone. Pulled enough weeds to fill a 13 gallon trash bag.
As grumpy and bitchy as I usually am (on here anyway)... I enjoyed it. Do I wish I had gone riding? Sure... But i'm glad we took the time to help out, it was gratifying work and I think it helped give her a head start on her yard work.
Anyway... the wife snapped a pic of me spreading the mulch. Apparently I scored some points with her today, although that honestly wasn't my goal.
So that was my view today...
