A 90 grinder with a 40 grit pad would probably work well. You'll just need to be careful not to get too aggressive with it. I'd also lay about 4-5 layers of masking tape on your gunwales at the turf line so you don't mess up your pretty ski.

Hmm soft grinding wheel is a good idea

Treated the new ride to full ceramic tint today.

18% on rear and sunroof, 35% on sides and 70% on the windshield.

Well I have to thank @tintr1 for the hookup on the ceramic tint. He owns a tint shop in Statesboro and does excellent work.

He did all the windows in my last truck with ceramic and all the windows in our house. The house isn't ceramic but it s a 35% bronze that really cuts down on the heat, adds security in the form of reinforcing the glass and makes it so we can open up all our blinds in the day and nobody can see in at all.

After holding off for almost a year, I had him tint the windshield in my old truck last Thursday and then I traded it off the very next day, lol.

FYI, I'm new to the tinting of the windshield but so far it's a no brainer. I shot the dash temps before and after and it's significant.

don't mind the bug splatter but here's an example of the windshield tint.
70%, 0% and 35% respectively.

It was pretty packed on I16 this morning but I only endured a couple slowdowns and only one complete stoppage but it was a half mile from my exit so I escaped with little to no delays.

Headed back to Savannah was a different story...

I had the windshield in my Tacoma tinted with the same tint about 3 years ago and it does make a significant difference. I was told it kept out most of the UV rays and keeps the interior temps down. I do find it a PITA to see out of when wearing polarized shades though.

Using my cheap point and shoot temp gun on the dash, I got 195F before and 168F after.

The same time I shot the 195F on the dash, the door sill less than 2ft away was only 151. Both were in direct sunlight but the side window had 35% ceramic tint.

The internal air temp within the cab seems about the same but the amount of thermal energy driven into the interior is greatly reduced as evidenced by how quickly the AC was able to pull the interior temp down to a reasonable level.

Getting a hookup on the ceramic is killer. It's significantly more expensive at the tint shop, I wonder how much more their cost is.

I agree with you, the ceramic blocks such a high level of UV that it will significantly reduce the solar load. After several hours of sitting I'd expect the same steady-state temp but it will take much less time to cool down. Your IR temp gun seems to have confirmed that.

The UV below around 40-50% didn't have any added blocking from the 3M Crystalline I looked at, but just has a dye layer added. Especially the 20%.
I'll probably use CR90 on the windshield, CR70 on the sides, and 40 or 50 on the rear when I get my truck done.

I actually have only been in one house that had tinted windows. Like you said, much cooler.
