If the water or air temp is under 80 I wouldn't risk it, it just isn't worth the risk of hypothermia .

IMG00523-20110312-1109.jpg there was an ice dam at the start of this ride. A few rips around the river and it was all broken up. Its all about preparing for the weather

What is this about foot warmers Charlie? This is the first I have ever read about it, and I wouldn't mind! I hate my purple drysuit, even though I still do not think I would ride without it when out your way, even if I did have the foot and hand warmers.

Basically same as what Chad says Suzi

I usually run footwarmers from about oct on....divert one of your pissers to a tube that runs to your footholds

I used a drysuit for the one and only race I did in Havasu for a APBA race in January (who holds a race in Jan? HAHA) Gotta say, worked like a charm. Had my sweat pants underneath and was pretty cozy

till the water frezzes !!! Ive been in 36-42 degree water temps before !

I was gonna say, until the water freezes. I usually wait until the lake I go to the water temperature is in the 40s, and air temperature preferably about 60F+, usually 45F water and 65F air is comfortable with my 3mil wet suit. Honestly, the biggest requirement is it being sunny out for me, that's what keeps you warm :)

I did a whole tank last year in the snow to dial in my SJ before Daytona. Air with wind chill was 19 degrees and the water was 31. Hand and foot warmers pumping but it didn't seem too be working lol. It's all how you make it

I always wonder though if super cold water is bad for the motor. I mean that extream cold going into hot cases seems like something might crack

Anyone ever run into problems before?

Damn i guess i will have to back out of my order. the highest water temp we get over here is 70s. if we are lucky it could hit 75 in a lake somwhere.

dont think so cause you will have cold water all the time. its not going to come like a shock.
it could get damaged for running to cool. a cold sieze may happen. cylinder runs to cold and does not expand at the same rate as the pistons creating a to tight clearence between piston and clylinder. causing them to sieze.

I forgot!
you can monitor you engine temp through your handlbar pissers. I have an adjustable restrictor that i can dial in the motor to make sure it is running hot. Sunny days are where it is at but usually after thanksgiving your rides are two sessions long, and your not there to bbq and hang out, theres riding to do and thats pretty much it. 7mm semi-dry suit, a neoprene hat to cover the ears and booties is all that is needed if you got the handlbar pissers. I don't like gloves.
