I personally think that Yamaha and Kawasaki are the overall leaders in dependabilty and longevity as long as the proper maintenance is performed. A friend of mine and I were discussing the potential worthiness of a USED watercraft shop in our area, and we both think that there might be a market for it here. We have both heard of and seen similar style shops in other areas---but my question is:

Which USED brand(s) and model(s) would you consider to be the MOST dependable?

IMO:

1. Yamaha
2. Kawasaki
3. Honda
4. Polaris
5. Seadoo

:haha: I told him if this idea went to the table, I would personally kick his a-s-s if he bought even ONE SeaDoo product.

Any suggestions on Models of the other four brands products that you would reccomend?

I am gonna say this. Every model of ski from a same maker did not have the same engineer design it. So you cant put a blanket on a brand. Certain models are good and some are bad from a common maker.

Thats a tough question Royal.

Keep in mind every brand has its problem years do your home work and act accordingly. For instance Yamaha's powervalve problem years or Seadoos 1997 to 1999 951 water ingestion problem. I own 2 post 2001 fuel injected seadoos ( for the wife and kids ) And they have been the most reliable skis I have owned I know this wont be popular but its true in my case.

The dealer I know says that if it does'nt run great or look great he cant take it.

Dont feel bad for me I still have 3 running standups and use them when ever I can.

Exactly---that's why I asked the question.

I am looking for more specific opinions on which models of which brands have a better reputation for dependability and overall appeal to a budget-conscious buyer.

I appreciate the input. What would be your "Top Ten Most Dependable Watercraft List "?

Of four dealerships in my area that deal with PWC, I'll only shop at two of them.

Anything with a 701 or 760 yamaha.

Pretty much what he said.
GPR has issues with the crank snout breaking unless going to a light flywheel.

Superjets last a long time UNLESS you bust the front of the hull on the bottom of the lake. Thats gonna cost more than 5 bux to fix.

I would definetly say that any Yamaha 650, 701, or 760 would be tops in reliability in my book followed by the kawaski 650 or 750. Even though they suck for reliability I would deal with the xp spx platform seedoo because they are still a popular older ski.

I think the reliabilty of the yamahas goes down wth the triples or the powervalve motors. But they are still worth dealing with because of the popularity from a business standpoint. Still Better than The seedoos IMO, because their problems are eisier to fix like using waveater clips and such. Their were also cavitation issues with the 99 and 00 Gp's if I remember but this was also somewhat easily corrected.
