Freestyle Which way to go??

Just want to get some opinions from people that have a lot more experience than I do... - I am very new to riding and starting pretty late in life (at 43) but I have a good amount of water sports experience, just not on stand ups. I like this because it's challenging and I don't need anyone else to do it (like someone to pull you on a wakeboard for example) and it's a great workout. So, I bought a FX1 at the end of last summer and have been riding it this summer. I absolutely love riding... I want to keep the FX1 all stock and original, but I would really like wider bars, a shorter pole and more width in the tray. I feel very narrow and tall on my ski. I am also thinking that maybe a backflip should be on my bucket list....

So, my question is this - should I just keep riding the FX1 and continue to get better for a while, or should I maybe look at skis like Krash and Rickter? Oh - I also love to tinker with high performance parts, etc... it kills me to leave the FX1 alone.

All opinions help! Thanks.

Lose the FX1 and go AM. Your riding ( tricks ) will improve tremendously! I had 3 FX1s and don't miss them one bit! I went to a Krash 50cal and have not looked back. The FX1 takes years to master and rip on. I am 42 and don't have years.

Haha I just sent you a message based on another post that I saw of yours... curious - how long did you ride the FX1 before making the switch?

I went aftermarket after spending so much money on upgrades on a stock ski because I kept reading this forum. Now that I have an aftermarket ski I can only do circles lol and also miss riding the lakes and rivers. So now I'm wanting a stock ski to puttt around. Go figure, I'm doing circles back to square 1

yea superjets are still the best skis

Even if you can keep the fx1 for cruising I wouldn't bother. Once you ride an AM hull going back to the fx1 is going to be painful. It is a completely different ride style and going from a wide Am ski back to the narrow fx1 won't be fun (I can not stand to ride my buddies fx1 anymore, absolutely hate it lol). On that note, I would stick with a freeride ski as opposed to a freestyle ski so you don't get stuck riding in circles like River Rat =p

I found some middle ground with my -8.5 superfreak, can ride 5-10 miles without hating myself, but can still do backflips and chase boats. There are better cruising skis, and better backflip skis, but at least I can do it all fairly well.

Old guy learning, FX1's and backflips are not things that go together. Remove the old guy learning and they still don't go together without an ocean wave and big talent.

Just put down a deposit on a 50cal. Super pumped! Thx for the advice
